Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
Thank you, Joy. For some reason, "10w" stuck in my head and I never thought to look closely. Cliff

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
The different ratings for CW and SSB suggest that the limitation is heating not voltage. CW/digital/FM are all "full power" when transmitting.

Excellent video on using the KX2 for Sota/Pota hunting
I came across this 21 min video of using the KX2 for hunting Sota/Pota. It explained some features I either didn't know about or know how to use. Take a look. **** Unlock Peak Performance:

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
Cliff, I just looked at the specs for the Alex Loop newer model and it says "10 W on CW/digital/FM and 25 W on SSB.' ?So depending on what mode you could do 25W. Joy

Thanks, Oliver.? Ken dressed up in full zombie regalia the few years we did the Zombie Walk together (both stationary), and he festooned his mag loop with spiderwebs, plastic spiders, etc, and wore

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
I like the physical design--it seems derived from the FT817/818, newer Yaesu base rigs and the Icom '705. One to watch IMO. Best, --David KM6RI

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
consistent practice is the only way. I've been tuning in and copying whatever I can find every day for five or 10 minutes and now I can do contests at 20 words a minute; ragchews a bit slower. No

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
Doug, I still think about working on my CW proficiency from time to time. The Long Island DX Club seems to offer a promising resource. I still rely on CW for very weak microwave DX contacts.

Hi Eric, Sadly, Ken passed on in January 2017. You can still see Ken in a group photo that the HFPack groups.io home page uses. 73, Oliver [email protected]> wrote:

Hi Doug et al, Happy to acknowledge the QRP terminology. Back when I was active in HF Pack, Ken Chong WB6MLC and I enjoyed pedestrian mobile ops with lightweight (and sometimes heavier) rigs, but not

I thought I'd occasionally like to punch higher than 5w or 10w, so I bought a Hard Rock 50 amp. It works great with both KX2 and FT818. But I never use it! Requires bringing another battery, and

Oliver, QRP is 5 Watts.? Hiroki nailed it for the reason the radio is 10W.? We tend to think that every manufacturer designs for the US market.? Not true.? I look forward to seeing it.

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
The reason Yaesu limits power to 10 watts (this rig can do 10 watts with external ps), I suspect, is that the majority of hams in Japan are restricted to using only 10 watts max. There are more active

I see that it can do 10W with external DC power, still somewhat disappointing. Oliver KB6BA [email protected]> wrote:

Re: New Yaesu QRP rig
Once again Yaesu decided not to consider 20W capability for more effective QRP SSB ops (remember the old SGC-2020?). One would think that Yaesu's thermal management tech has progressed since 2001...
