Re: Where can I find a 10 ft galvanized steel mast pole in the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara area
If you want STURDY, get galvanized water pipe.? Pluming supply stores have it in 20 ft lengths.? But the thicker walls make it much heavier than EMT.?? I'm sure EMT would more than adequate for 2 meters.? For 20 meters you would want to be careful in how you stand it? up.? Once up and properly guyed, it should be fine. BTW, the "trade sizes" of pipes do not match the dimensions on my ruler. ?1 1/2 inch pipe has OD of 1.9" ?2 inch pipe has OD of 2.37" My best guess is that pipe sizes were originally developed in the 1800's.? Over time, improved manufacturing processes and materials allowed for thinner walls, but the OD's were kept the same so existing fittings would be compatible.? Anyway, the ID of current pipes is "similar" to the trade size.? But if the dimensions are important, check with a table of the dimensions. BTW, I have a tri-band beam on a mast of water pipe.? It was installed years ago.?

Re: Where can I find a 10 ft galvanized steel mast pole in the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara area
I agree, I would not use EMT for anything but as electrical conduit.?? But, Chris suggested 2", maybe that's pretty sturdy. I've used 1.25" IMC for 10 foot support pole.? IMC is available at hardware stores. RMC is heavier wall, but is harder to find retail.? I know hams that have used it for antenna poles, but it seems like overkill because I found IMC sufficient. Be aware that EMT is not really strong as some other metal pipes. Electricians routinely bend it to fit installations.?

I have three sections of steel antenna mast, swaged so that they fit together, and powder coated. Somebody gave them to me and I am not going to use them anytime in the next five or 10 years. ? would you like them, Joy? On Sun, Jun 2, 2024 at 17:59, Joy Rabins <doghouse3@...> wrote:

Re: Zachtek not transmitting
Hi Howard,
Do you hear the relays clicking on your zachtek? ?That would tell you if the microprocessor is still controlling outputs. ?If the relays are clicking, then it could be that any of the TCXO, Si5351 frequency synthesizer chip, or 0.3W amplifier chip has gone bad. ?To determine that, one would need to use a 'scope. 73, Ron, n6ywu |
Re: Lung Problem
Dave, did you ask your doctor for a cough suppressant? As you know, sleep is VERY important. I often wake in the middle of the night because of back pain so I know what you are going through. The best night's sleep I had gotten in months was when I had two margaritas with dinner one night. ?My doctor frowned on that solution so I am now "margarita free" as a sleep aid.
I have never tried these but my doctor suggested it once, ? Mucinex Dm 12 Hour Expectorant & Cough Suppressant Tablets.? If you use My Health or My Chart with your doctor and just send him/her a message asking for something to help you sleep. If they don't respond let me know and I'll bring my 1/2 full bottle of Jose Cuervo Ready to Drink Margarita mix. I recommend the "Ready to Drink" Margarita mix because it's hard for me to do math in the middle of the night to figure out how much toquilla to put in regular Margarita mix.? Joy N6GO |
Re: Zachtek not transmitting
Howard, I assume you have checked the LEDs to see what it is doing. The yellow one flashes every second when the GPS signal is locked, and the red will be on when it is transmitting. Also, you can us the App on your PC and see what it thinks it is doing. Bring it down to the Baylands this Friday. I will bring a spectrum analyzer and wattmeter so we can see what coming out of the Tx. If you have a QRP wattmeter, try and measure the RF into a dummy load. You can also listen to it on your 7300 and try to decode the signal using WSJTx. You may have to use some attenuation on the 7300 to keep it from overloading. Dave W6VYC

Re: Lung Problem
Joy, Thanks for your kind offer. I am physically functional, so I have been able to get out once and a while in the afternoon. My challenge is finding a way to get a good night's sleep. Sometimes I try sleeping a recliner chair in the living room and then sometimes I get up in the middle of the night try sleeping in bed. Once I lie down, I start coughing which keeps me awake. I am taking Delsym and Zyrtec which help. Good stuff from your visit to the QRP convention. I hope to get down to the Baylands this Friday.....Dave

Re: LoTW still down? Any update from Kristin McIntyre?
Someone did ask K. McIntyre about the LOTW situation at the FARS meeting, after her SWR presentation. ?She basically replied that the ARRL is working on the problem, but she currently wasn't at liberty to provide more details about the issue.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis website provides LOTW service status:?
However, it doesn't provide any guidance about expected restoration of service.?? I suspect that once LOTW is back on the air, there will be an enormous backlog to process. Dick K6PBF On 5/26/2024 2:37 PM, Joy Rabins wrote:
Wow, it looks like the first report on the ARRL website was 5/16/24. I had not been on the air lately because I've been helping a friend in Auburn and then went to Hamvention. It's not a good look for them to be down this long especially when ham radio is supposed to excel during emergencies. If anyone notices that's it started working would you post it here? Thanks, Joy N6GO |
