QRPP+ Troubleshooting
4
I could be also interested. My QRP+ shows now an erratic issue at start up which I was unable to solve. It seems something wrong at firmware boot but without any precise guideline about this argument is not possible for me to proceed. Then I'm interested to check the possibility to replace the board or even the unit. I1MDQ Nino fm Genova Italy

QRPP+ Parts Radio For Sale
2
I have my radio for sale because (1) I took it apart and don't have the skill to get it back together, and (2) my interest in QRP has waned. It worked when I got it, but it was not sensitive like it should be. I replaced the mixer and no difference. So I stopped there and put in a box. It still worked "the last time I turned it on" but didn't work well. I'll sell it for $100 as-is with manual and mic. If interested, let me know. Buyer pays shipping. Thanks Wes

QRP Plus (++) Reference Frequency Adjustment
Anyone have any comments/experience on the QRP Plus (++) reference frequency adjustment procedure? I have a QRP Plus V2 in top condition. When first powered on the displayed frequency is off by 0.2 KHz. As the radio warms up it does improve. That may be within spec for the radio, but if it can be improved, I'd like to try. With newer radios correcting an offset is usually as simple as tuning a single inductor or capacitor, but I see with the QRP ++ the manual process is more involved. It requires connecting a counter or spectrum analyzer to pin 17 on LO PCB chip U4 and adjusting C47 and C48 looking for specific frequencies while tuning. Without disassembling the stacked boards, it appears the capacitors are adjustable via holes in the board above but pin 17 on the IC looks difficult to access. Anyone who has tried this have comments? Is there an alternative process where one could simply adjust the caps during TX and simply correct the carrier frequency to better match the displayed frequency?

QRP+Companion

Another day spent indoors.. :-( Played with the tuner in the Companion and noticed two things.. 1) If the antenna is resonant at the chosen frequency the tuning is almost flat. But 2) if the antenna is NOT resonant, the tuning gets very sharp. I used my 40M antenna and tried loading up on 60M.. Worked like a charm. :-)

I need to install a light for the display (old eyes!) Suggestions requested for the LED and wiring needed.. Blue or or Green or Orange preferred. Who to buy LED from and which one? And if there is an easy way to light the meter, that would be a bonius! Thanks.. Dave KK7SS

Pcb locations?
I have not yet opened my QRP+ to investigate a few minor mods. Starting from the top, what is each PCB's function. Thanks.. "Measure twice, cut once"

QRPPlus cabling
3
Hi all, I own a QRPPlus (1st edition) boughjt it years ago, sold it and now it is back again. But there is an issue ith this radio. On the second PCB (from above) there is J3 with some connections to the front. The first wire (red) has been burned out. So I will start to replace the cable but probably some other oner reconizes this issue and knows what causes this. Further I have a question about the VFO. As I can remember when I owned it for the first time I could quickly jump between HAM bands but that does not seem to work anymore. Another HAM told me that there has been a firmware upgrade could someone confirm that and if so was that an eprom delivery or can it be updated yourself? I think I have to check the complete radio first and find a suitable microphone. Than in advance for all answers. de Kees PA1CJT

Need Advice
2
I have been troubleshooting my deaf QRP+ transceiver. It works on Transmit with 4W out on CW and 2W out on SSB. 100 uV on 20M gives about S-5 meter reading. I can barely hear 1 uV. I thought it might be the First Mixer SBL-1, but I was cautioned that it might not be because the transmit would be bad also (mine isn¡¯t bad). This is after I pulled the board from the radio. Well, I put it back in the radio and Measured signal levels with my TEK 100 MHz scope and HP 8640B generator. Here are signal levels at several points in the circuit: Antenna input was adjusted at 14.200 MHz for 20 mV. (one cm pk-pk). Measuring at C40 after the BPF was the same 20 mV. This input to the SBL-1 Mixer. Measured on C41 4 mV. This is the Mixer output and input to AMP. (-6 dB loss) Measured Amp Output on C40 20 mV. Interesting is that with 20 mV at the Antenna Input on 14.200 MHz I get about S-5 on the S-meter; with 20 mV at the Antenna input on 50.000 Mhz I get about S-5 on the S-meter. (same). And both signals are same volume. My questions are: Is the SBL-1 good or bad? If it is bad, How do I get it off the board ??? I need help to get my radio back in proper operation. Can anybody help me? If I am on the wrong track, then point me in the right direction? Thanks, Wes Sent from Mail for Windows 10

I tested my QRP+ for sensitivity: 50 uV S4-5 on 14.200 MHz 1 uV S0 barely audible Reading archives etc. it seems the SBL-1 mixer is easily blown. Anybody with experience help point me in the right direction? Thanks Wes Sent from Mail for Windows 10

New QRP+

My "new" radio is a QRP+. It receives very well. Haven't been on the air yet because I need to modify the Speaker-Microphone connector. So far I am a happy camper. Not much activity on this forum. Hope the covid didn't get everybody. Stay safe, make wise decisions.
