QRP Plus deja vu
I just bought a QRP Plus and its in shipping to me. Don't know s/n or model yet. I owned one many years ago, but let it go. Just decided on a whim to buy this one. Mine will be used on SSB because I never did get comfortable with code (although I took the 20 wpm Extra test at the FCC in Atlanta). Maybe I'll be fortunate and have a good working radio. Looking forward to learning more and sharing experiences with the Group. Wes Texarkana, AR

QRP+ for sale.
Hal, I am open to offers on the QRP+ and tuner. I am 75 years young but will not live long enough to really use again all the stuff I have collected over the years so to save my wife and son grief I have sold a lot already building the kitty for Dayton. Only spent $250 at HamCation. Ha! Please respond direct to djwilcox01@... I am not greedy. I think I paid about $450 ten or so years ago total for both. They were difficult to find, especially the tuner back then. No issues with either. Batteries replaced a few years ago and recharged/checked every 6 months. Radio Shack hand mic. I have printed out all the info I could find about care, mods, ops, etc., and have an original manual. I am in Florida avoiding the snow until April 10th or so. Dave K8WPE David J. The first thing to do is try a rest: Hold down the MEM button while applying power. It certainly that the mixer is shot, and possibly the IRF510. Good luck. Larry W1HUE/7 On the web at w1hue.org

QRP++ repair questions
Hi to all the group members Happy to see that the group is still alive. I have in my workbench a friend's QRP++ with S/N 15XX which needs attention. Las weekend I switched it on and had the S/N on the screen followed by an odd frequency reading. Trying to switch bands through the MEM button did not work properly. My best guess is the the battery is exhausted but I do not know if perhaps the EPROM is corrupted as well. Although there is audio, no reception in any band with the rig connected to an antenna. I checked it on TX and unfortunatelly just a few mW read on my WM-2 wattmeter. I checked as well the iddle current of the IRF510 and with the power pot set to the minimum PWR the current was 980mA. As far as the Index-1 mixer is used bidirectionaly I wonder if it is out of order. I remember that the rig was quite sensitive to static. I have still to perform some measurements in order to know what is wrong. Regarding a possible replacement for the Index-1 mixer I think that the Minicircuits SBL-1-MH+ would be suitable and 100% pin compatible. If anyone else has experience with it or any other alternative with +13dBm LO signal, please advice. I would appreciate any directions/suggestions regarding the repair. I would start checking the LO signal level, then inject a 50microV signal and track it in the RX path. If the mixer is deffective then I would replace it and check again the rig on RX and after on TX to see if the IRF510 is also "ill" or if there is PWR out. Replacing the IRF510 would not be an issue unless having to disassemble the whole rig to access to it. Then set the bias according to the known insructions. Many thanks in advance for any feedback helping to repair the rig. 72/73 de Vicen?, EA3ADV

Progress with my Radio
Thanks to all those who have replied. I downloaded and printed off copies of the owners manual and the hints & tips pages. Real summer reading!! I bought a replacement power plug and a suitable battery for portable usage. I also installed a new button battery and checked the fuse. I turned it on and the receiver just works. Band conditions are shocking so I have yet to hear many stations. Now to buy a suitable electret microphone? Does anyone know of a source for these items.... perhaps there's a chinese source for this part?? I've seen suitable microphones with plugs for Icom or Yaesu rigs but it seems a waste to buy and then cut off the plug. The voltage might not be correct too!! Any help would be appreciated ... I love my little brick of a radio!!! 73 Richard VK1RJ

Old files and messages from Yahoo Groups 3
Are all the old messages and files going to be uploaded from Yahoo Groups? I think this can be done automatically? I am a member of 95 other radio related Yahoo Groups but so far only 10 have been migrated by the Group owners to Groups.ie so it looks like years of useful data, mods and files will be lost :(

(Ad) [QRPPlus] Power Plug
One that fits . . . :-) Check the diameter of the hole -- there are, I believe three or four choices between plug length and internal diameter. Unless someone can give you a more definite answer, buy the two or three longest that have the correct outer diameter and see which one fits. They aren't all that expensive. Larry W1HUE

(Ad) [QRPPlus] Reboot?
Yes and yes. There is a backup battery that may need replacing and the rig can be reset by holding down the MEM button while turning on power. The battery can be replaced as follows: 1. Remove the top cover and be careful not to stress the speaker leads. 2. The Li battery is visible from the top near the rear of the PCB -- it is coin type about the size of a nickle. 3. Use a small screwdriver to lift out the old battery and replace it with the same type. 4. Replace the cover and reset the rig by holding down the MEM button when turning on power. if you want a copy of the manual, you can obtain one here. 72/73, Larry W1HUE

Reboot?
My QRP+ has been silent for several years. I want to get it going again ... is there a reset to factory procedure?? I did turn it on a while ago, but it did not behave as I remembered. Is there a backup battery internally which may need replacing?? Richard VK1RJ

QRP+ and Antenna tuner
I am downsizing my QRP collection to raise money for the Orlando HamCation. I have been collecting for 25+ years. I have a mint QRP+ I bought from Larry, W1HUE, years ago (Larry, sorry if I got your call wrong...memory is fading). I also have the matching antenna tuner. Everything works well. Will check it out again before shipping. No mods. I will NOT sell separately (of course a ridiculously high offer for the tuner might be accepted. It was harder and more expensive that the radio back when I bought it). I am looking for $400.00 plus shipping to CON USA. Any interest? Contact me directly at Djwilcox01 at gmail dot com. Thank you for offering this group. Dave K8WPE since 1960
