Re: will not power up

thanks
I have ordered a new IRF510. When I remove it I will check again to see if the short is still there.
If it is I guess I need to see if I can find a bad cap or diode in the area.
Thanks for the schematics and board layouts.

Selling this eq for my friends? XYL is getting to be more than I thought.

He also has a Ten Tec Orion which looks to be missing the IF board. It powered up OK but no signals or output.
All the settings from the screen seems to work but from looking at other photos of Orion radios the front left hand
area is missing what I think is the IF board. Not sure what my buddy was doing with this radio. So far the only radio
that seems to work is his Ameritron AL572 amp.

Plus he has two all mode 2 meter radios that both have issues. I was going to donate one to the local high school station
but I got to get at least one of them working. One will not power up and the other has a broken lock switch so the vfo knob
will not tune (seems to be locked).

Hate to sell all his radio as for parts only but I dont have a lot of time to repair all his old radios.
I told this to his XYL and I think she understands.?

thanks again for your help

My best guess is the IRF510 has an internal short.? Or, if you are lucky, it could be the cap or diode near the power connector.? If you need schematics and board layouts, you can download them from .

If it is the IRF510, it was probably damaged by a static discharge from the antenna in which case the input mixer may also be blown.

A very simple mod that EVERY QRP-PLUS owner should do is add a 10K to 20K resistor across the antenna connector to bleed off static charge buildup.

With the bottom board out I read?63 & 56 ohms across the 2 pin power connector on the bottom board.
