It depends what is meant by 'completely dead?'
If it simply won't receive signals any more then the RX mixer is probably blown.
This is a well-known fault with the design and there are some easy work arounds ONCE you have replaced the mixer -- which is not easy to do!
There's lots of information about this failure mode and the way to replace the mixer -- assuming you can find a replacement -- either the original type or an equivalent.
