Funny thing happening to keyer chip
6
I just finished putting my 30m QRSS kit together yesterday evening (certainly more interesting than X Factor) and every thing seems to be functioning. I have run the keyer in its default 12 WPM setting and it rattles through my callsign once at the selected speed. After that it reverts to the 6 second dit rate. This is just an observation as I do not intend to run at 12WPM but was wondering if there may be a bug in the program. I will try it at other speeds to see what happens and will also try another chip that Hans prepared earlier this year.

Keyer chip clarification
Hi all
Just some comments regarding the recent keyer chip thread:
1) Do NOT use 10K pull-ups! It won't work! You need pull-DOWN's! Not up! If you see this problem, then you can connect a 10K resistor between each of pins 5, 6, 7 and ground. Alternatively, if you wish you can ground each of the pins 5, 6 and 7 which you have not linked to Vcc.
2) Regarding the 12wpm: The intended function of the keyer is that you will get a 12wpm callsign once when you power up, followed by QRSS (at whatever speed you have selected). You then get the 12wpm callsign again once every approximately 10 minutes. This was intended as a full speed callsign identifier every 10 minutes, but only really useful if the keyer is used in a plain on/off keyed QRSS system rather than an FSK/CW system. So don't get alarmed when you see the 12wpm ident at switch on! This is entirely normal!
3) The variation in audio tone of a few 10's of Hz which Steve mentioned, is because the AVR is clocked only using its internal RC-based system clock at 9.6MHz. The stability of this clock source, and the variation between devices, is several percent. So both the audio tone, and the precise timing, can vary by a few percent.
Any other questions please shout!

Keyer chip clarification
Hi all,
I lied about the pull ups....i really meant pull downs...sorry.

[Knightsqrss] 80M SV beacon
Hans...& others
These QRSS beacons (and the grabbers) seem to be popping up on many
bands
and on many frequencies.? This seems to suggest that we each need
QRSS Beacon
transmitters for all bands, and for many frequencies.
That then suggests that the Keyer chip could be installed in a
separate chassis
and used as a controller for any, or all, of several different QRSS
transmitters.

Supply current question
4
I have now managed to complete my 30m QRSS kit and was wondering how much current they should draw from the supply. Mine pulls roughly 100mA from 4 x AA batteries in series. Does that sound about right?

QRSS TX Mod and Japanese QRSS situation
2
Hi friends,
I've uploaded my mod. of the QRSS TX kit.
I added the BCD Switch to select the 8-transmitting mode.
It works fine without adding the pull down resisters.
Please see the photos into "Photos -> JA9MAT".
BTW...
I use the small 5V-DC Switching Power Module and got about 200mW
at peak but now down to 100mW.A 2N700 has a little hot but seems
no problem for 24hours work.
My antenna is G5RV tuned to 30m band with tuner.
I QRV last night but no grabber response to me...
A 100mW is so small to be received in Europe and even in Oceania.
No JA or Asian station QRV on QRSS mode here so it seems difficult
to confirm my signal.I must confirm my signal by myself.
I'm envious with European QRSS staions.
So many QRSS signals appears into the grabber display.
I wish if I were you. hi.
I have another QRSS transmitter it's out power is 1.5W and
also 5W with adding the IRF510 linear amplifier.
But it's not suitable for continuous carrier transmission.
It used for QRSS3,6 and DFCW mode.
Thanks for nice kit supply,73.

QRSS Scheduke
No problem.
Send me an e-mail once you are ok.
I have a beacon that I try to run every night between 1500z (when I go to bed) and 0000z.
My signal has been received by ZL2IK already and when I was doing some tests by VK2DI, but now his grabber is offline most of the time.
I cannot run the grabber all the time because the computer is also used by other people, but at night and if there "someone" to receive, no problem.
Here the address :

[qrp-l.org] Don't forget the NoGA Guppy!! A T/R switch...
What I am looking for is a Power Meter , for QRP , QRPp .
A 2 watt and a 1 watt full scale reading would be the ultimate meter ,
although displaying a little more power would certainly not be a deal
breaker .
Homebrew is fine too . Don't really need to have an SWR function .
The difficult part is I would like for it to operate accurately in the low
MF range ( 160 meters , 600 meters ) and also the LF range ( 1750 meters ) .
I currently use a clamp on RF probe that works just fine , but it would be
nice to have a meter that I can use on the bench , or leave in the line all
of the time .
ANY design suggestions , or kit devices would be greatly appreciated .
THANK YOU , I am SURE someone on this great group , can help me come up with
something .
Charlie , W5COV
Part 15 , Lowfer Beacon : CV , 185.298.25 kHz . , QRSS60 , 24 / 7 , EM26ex ,

QRSS 80 meters - Europe - take a Look
I am QRV on 3500.850. Vern has spotted me in Nova Scotia and SV1BKE's
carrier appears to be above me. So as those of you in Europe wake up, give
a look for me and see if we are "crossing the pond".

80 meters
My beacon is on 3500.850 and throughout the night. Last night, I was
spotted in Nova Scotia, Florida and New Mexico. Hope to catch some of you
on the gray line. Thanks for looking.

Finished to build QRSS TX
4
Hi members,
I've finished to build yesterday.
I also put some photos in "JA9MAT" photo folder.
My Modification are follows addition;
1)The PIEZO monitor speaker
2)The transmittig Blue LED
3)The BCD Switch to change the 8-modes
4)The small heatsink on 2N7000 with EPOXY bonding
I use small AC/DC regulator 5V/1A and the Po=150mW
without over heating the final-2N7000.
I QRV every weekend and hope to catch my weak signal.
Thanks for nice QRSS project!

Is the shop closed?

Howdy,
I just learned about the QRSS Kit and would love to buy and build one. It looks like the shop over at hanssummers.com is not working. Are there still kits available?

80 meters
My 80 meter QRSS beacon is up on 3500.840 as of 2300 UTC 12/4/2010. I will
keep it on throughout tonight until past gray line. It will go back up on
12/5/2010 at 2200 UTC and stay though 1300 UTC on 12/06. Spots are
appreciated.
BTW, am running 70 mw to an 80 meter inverted Vee at 50 feet.

The Shop works fine
Hey All,
Thanks for the words of welcome and by the way, the shop works just fine, I was able to order a QRSS beacon for each of the bands for which the kits are made. Very much looking forward to building them and putting them on the air!
I'll be meeting up with at least one of you tomorrow at the NorCal QRP meeting in Pleasanton, CA; see you there Paul.

G0UPL Beacon kit availability
Greetings one and all,
I am afraid we are out of stock of beacon kits and a few other items for a couple of weeks until fresh stocks of toroids, crystals and PCBs arrive. I'll post here when we have more stock.
Please do NOT send me money in anticipation of a kit. To keep things easy to manage all orders must go via the shop on Hans's web site.?
Thanks,

30m beacon now operational
Guys
I have activated my 30m beacon at QG62ll. Unknown power but I assume close to 100mW into a 30m dipole. The feed is approx 10m above the ground and the arms are horizontal, one EW and the other NS. On a sloping block so the ends are higher than the feed. Frequency is 10140035, but has varied a little during the day, up to 10140045.
I have it running 24/7 until the batteries fail, when I'll replace them.
Thanks
Tim
