QMC+ (Rev1) PROBLEM - HELP!
#qmx
Hi all, I have previously built the QCX, QDX and QMX and now the QMX+.? Sadly, the QMX+ has not gone as planned.
When switched o, it basically does NOTHING. No lights, no display and (thankfully) no smoke. With 9V (600mA limited) supply, I only get 9V showing at the points indicated in the image. I have re-flowed all the connections in the areas shown. I cannot read circuit diagrams, so if anyone cares to offer help, please make it simplistic. I should point out that holding in the power button makes no difference to the readings at the points shown. Oh, and plugging in the USB port to my PC shows no response (ie no usb flash drive). Many thanks, Tom. |
Did you download the firmware? You will see nothing until you do that. Mike Krieger On Tue, Jun 18, 2024 at 5:13?PM Tom M7MCQ via <m7mcqio83ro=[email protected]> wrote: Hi all, I have previously built the QCX, QDX and QMX and now the QMX+.? Sadly, the QMX+ has not gone as planned. |
No, you will not have any display until you download the firmware. You need to connect the xcvr. to your computer with a USB-C cable and follow the download instructions. Once you get a good download you will see the display light up. On Tue, Jun 18, 2024 at 6:09?PM Tom M7MCQ via <m7mcqio83ro=[email protected]> wrote: Hi Mike, the display should light up at least! There¡¯s absolutely nothing. And as mentioned in the post, the USB isn¡¯t recognised so it¡¯s not possible to install firmware.? --

Oops I just saw you are not able to download firmware.? On Tue, Jun 18, 2024 at 6:12?PM Mike Krieger <wa8uoc@...> wrote:

You might try connecting it to a different computer and try a different USB port on your computer. I am not able to use the high speed blue USB ports..? On Tue, Jun 18, 2024 at 6:13?PM Mike Krieger <wa8uoc@...> wrote:

Hi. My problem was that the radio didn¡¯t switch off. After having checked that the encoder switch was ok and also that the PWR ON was going to GND when encoder switch pressed, I found out that the failure was on Q102 which was not draining to 78m33. I understood this measuring on pin 1 and 2 of 78m33. Since there was no input on pin 1, I checked q102 which is immediately before it, and was not working. Consequently it was not possible to switch on the cpu and for this reason it was not possible to see usb connection. I solved temporary bypassing q102 and giving the Vin directly on pin 1 of 78m33. The radio turned on, I loaded firmware and all was ok. Obviously, the radio doesn¡¯t turn off and on normally and to do this you need to plug/unplug the DC.?

Hi Andy,
I have looked through all 69 pages of the Assembly Manual and can see no reference points for checking voltages.? I can't read circuit diagrams, so they're no help to me. If someone could point out (in a simplistic way) where to take readings with a DVM, I would do that. I have built the QMX+ for 12V use but so far have restricted the input voltage to 9V (600mA). Thanks for your help. Tom. |

Can no one help with USB NOT RECOGNISED on QMX-PLUS?Tom I had same issue and two attempts found solution. Have radio connected to? computer with USB before turning radio on. Watch device manager to see if new com port and audio inputs show up. I use Win10. 1) Try flipping USB C over. 2) I had to use a USB C to USB Micro adapter and a USB Micro cable to get it to work. The points on the board shown here are a good place for initial voltage testing. Vin should always be the voltage you have provided at the power plug, in your case? 9 volts. V+ should show the same 9 volts when the power on button is pressed, and if things work as expected will stay at that same voltage when the button is released. At that point you should measure 5 volts at Vcc and about 3.3 at Vdd. If you don't get the 5 volts and 3.3 volts, disconnect the power and check resistance to ground at those two points.? A very low reading, like 20 ohms or less is a problem.?? But let's see what you get before looking further. Good luck, 73? KG8IW? Bruce ? ? ? |
@ggsubs - I checked for a short on the Q103/Q104 drains as highlighted in that document, but they're fine - there's no continuity (although they do look darn close, lol).
There is, however, continuity elsewhere (see image). Probably should be, but I'm not sure so I showed it here. @BRUCE KG8IW - After taking those voltage readings, I removed the power boards and checked that the 3 and 4 pin connectors were good and I checked continuity between the pins and the boards once they were back in situ. |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes - there is a trace where you indicate continuity for the QMX. I found it when I made an accidental solder bridge and then couldn't wick it away. It does show up on the top of page 13, assembly_1_04a.pdf, circuit diagram? I verified continuity on another board and then powered that
sucker up. Worked fine, no smoke :) Sandy KB3EOF On 6/20/24 13:41, Tom M7MCQ via
