New QRP-Labs product idea? A QMX/QDX based digimode / cat interface?

Important note : I know Hans is a very busy man doing great stuff for us, but the idea below came to mind this morning and had to write it down.

?

Not just owning QRP-Labs rigs?I have made my fair share of digimode and CAT interfaces for my other rigs.?

But playing with my QMX for a few days new and loving the single USB cable solution, the idea came to mind that it would be great to have a single USB cable digimode / cat interface for my other rigs.

And looking at the QMX and QDX basically everything is there :

  • Built-in 24-bit 48ksps USB sound card (much better than most other USB sound cards)
  • Built-in USB Virtual COM Serial port for CAT control (you could have one to configure the interface and one to pass through the rig).?
  • The USB could be able to power the MCU etc.

Only thing missing is some good isolation for the audio and CAT signal lines, and a connector to which these signal lines would be available to the outside world.

If it would exist, I would immediately buy a 2 for my rigs.?

Just a though. And again, see?Important note?above.

?Yeah...that Digirig is fantastic. I have one for my G90.??

WB2CBA's post did not include "CAT" - just PTT through VOX.?
If you are just interested in PTT, I'd suggest USB sound cards with GPIO.?
? ? A much simpler (resistor and transistor) PTT solution which is support by most digital applications.

The digirig-mobile DOES include real CAT control.?
With that your computer can control the freq/band and any other settings that are included in CAT commands (including selectable filters, etc.).
Very reasonably priced as well!
Only down side I see is that it appears the sound card input is mono.

I have an old MicroHAM USB Interface III from about 2008 which had sound card and CAT capability.? Not sure they are around any more.
I paid a lot of money for it!?I haven't used it in years.??Gave up on it when Windows stopped supporting the USB driver.
? ?I wonder if newer Windows versions would work with it.?
? ? I'll have to give it a try.

The Microham USB interface III driver/configuration program works fine on my W10 machine.

That is indeed a dream come true. Thanks for the pointer.

And Barb, I like the idea, but do need the CAT option. But I have it bookmarked for later.

I downloaded the new driver and virtual port installer yesterday.
I tried it on my laptop (Win10) and desktop (Win11) and all worked as expected, but haven't connected a radio yet.
The cables I have were for some radios I no longer have.? I'll have to make some new ones.

I am glad someone asked the question.? It made me look at a piece of equipment that I wasn't using - but could be!
