IQ Output Question
On my QMX Rev 2, I connect to MacLoggerDX (MLDX) on my Mac Mini via the USB connection - works great. Also use it to run WSJT-X occasionally - also works great.
?I'd like to have QMX send IQ info to an RSPdx SDR. But it appears they both use the USB port. Is there any way to have my cake and eat it too, as they say? If you enable IQ on the QMX, what happens to the CAT data - no longer sent, or interspersed? ?By the way - wondering if IQ is even working - if I enable it in the DIGI menu, exit from Menu and then go back in, IQ has been disabled. Bug, or not yet implemented? -- Jim / K7TXA Eagle, ID SKCC 10447C BUG 301 |
Hi Jim ? ?I'd like to have QMX send IQ info to an RSPdx SDR. But it appears they both use the USB port. Is there any way to have my cake and eat it too, as they say? If you enable IQ on the QMX, what happens to the CAT data - no longer sent, or interspersed? ? Yess, you get to have your cake and eat it. The QMX implements a virtual USB Hub, with two devices?connected; USB Audio and USB Virtual COM Port. To you get audio and CAT at the SAME time.?Nothing is lost.? ? ?By the way - wondering if IQ is even working - if I enable it in the DIGI menu, exit from Menu and then go back in, IQ has been disabled. Bug, or not yet implemented? I don't see that... I don't know what happened to your setup to cause that, but it's working OK for me here... I just tried both on the terminal and on the QMX itself. I suggest perhaps you should try a Factory Reset, dare I say it.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Hello Jim,
You don't send the IQ data to RSPdx, but to some SDR software that's running on the PC (QMX is now acting like another RSPdx, so to speak). See this discussion on how to proceed. I've just checked on my QMX and the IQ seems to stay enabled. You may need to do a factory reset on yours and check again. Regards, YO3GFH op. Adrian |
Hans - I did a factory reset twice. No Joy. Some testing revealed something very strange.
?I enter the Digi interface screen and turn the right encoder through the eight entries, without changing any of the values, each of the eight values do not change while IQ mode is sitting at DISABLED. ?With IQ mode still DISABLED, I can change any of the other seven values, rotate the right encoder and they all stay as I've set them. ?However, if I change IQ mode to ENABLE, then rotate the right encoder through the eight entries, I find that two of them have changed: IQ mode is now DISABLED and Minimum cycles now has a random number as its value. None of the other values have changed, only those two. I get the exact same behavior if I change IQ mode to?ENABLE?and simply press the right BUTTON twice to get back to frequency display. I can then go back to the Digi interface entries and find those same two fields changed once again: IQ mode DISABLED and another random number in the Minimum Cycles field. ?I also fired up PuTTY and all tests are green. ?This is 100% repeatable. So - what the heck is happening here? -- Jim / K7TXA Eagle, ID SKCC 10447C BUG 301 |
Hello Jim 100% repeatable things are always good. If they're a firmware issue then I can repeat them too. So let me try what you've said and report back.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Mon, Feb 12, 2024, 9:12?PM Jim Bennett / K7TXA via <w6jhb=me.com@groups.io> wrote: Hans - I did a factory reset twice. No Joy. Hans - I did a factory reset twice. No Joy. Some testing revealed something very strange.Jim, I confirm that I can reproduce on my QMX the behaviour you're describing. I have always enabled IQ mode from the System config menu, and it worked properly that way. REv. 2 board here. Regards, YO3GFH op. Adrian |
I have enabled IQ mode via the System Config as Adrian mentioned, and it stays ENABLED. That was the good news. The bad news - several things:
?When enabling IQ mode via System Config, upon exiting the Menu, I get a high pitched tone in the headphones, no other audio, and the CW paddle is inoperative. Powering off then back on gets rid of the audio high pitched tone, but no audio at all and padded inoperative. Turning the IQ mode to Disable status returns all audio as it should be, but CW paddle inoperative. Power off and back on restores all functions (except IQ!) Arrghhhhh! :-( -- Jim / K7TXA Eagle, ID SKCC 10447C BUG 301 |

?When enabling IQ mode via System Config, upon exiting the Menu, I get a high pitched tone in the headphones,Jim, Note the manual "When IQ mode is enabled, the raw I and Q channels from the ADC are fed to the USB soundcard directly, without any demodulation. This is suitable for people wishing to experiment with using QMX as an SDR front end, with PC SDR software to demodulate I and Q channels." So you do not listen to QMX audio, the audio comes from whatever SDR program you use. It is RX only. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |

I was hoping to have the IQ stuff sent to the SDR software on receive and the QMX still function as a Tx device.Jim, IQ mode transforms the QMX into an experimental SDR receive front end so a 48KHz receive bandwidth may be shown and tuned using CAT. Any mode may be received within the 48KHz bandwidth. It is a completely separate function, not an addition. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
