Info power 5 v qlg1 external

Hi Al, thank you very much, this morning I tried to power the qlg1 from a different power supply than the qcx mini but the clock was not reconfigured despite the gps signal.? I don't understand why .. 73 iu8eun Giuseppe

Hello Giuseppe,
Yes, an external 5 volt supply will work. I have 2 QLG-1's and a QLG-2 and use external power (not supplied by my QRP Labs equipment) on them all.

For the QLG-1 units I use a 7805 voltage regulator IC to step down externally supplied 12 volts to 5V.?

Giuseppe,
Has this worked at all in the past? If not, the most common problem is not having the correct data Tx/Rx lines connected between the QLG1 and the QCX-mini.?

From memory, the QLG1's TXD?data line should connect to QCX-mini's?Serial data?data connection. Since the QCX-mini uses 3.5mm TRS jacks the wiring is shown below as per the instruction manual:

Does this help?

Al, yes the qlg1 works on the qcx mini without any problem.? What I did this morning is to feed the qlg1 not from the PTT of the qcx mini but from an external power supply and I noticed that it did not update the time to transmit in wspr. Al this is what I have to fix.? Thank you.? 73 iu8eun Joseph

OK, thank you. If all the LEDs work on the QLG1 showing power, data and PPS with the external 5V supply then the unit should communicate with the QCX-mini properly.

If it does not, then I'd look into verifying the connection between the two units.

Good luck & 73,

Make sure you have the grounds connected properly. This means that at least one of the power supplies must be isolated from ground, itself, but referenced to ground at the QCX, or you may get a ground loop.?

Thanks Al, I leave the qlg1 connected as it should.? for the moment I have 2 U3S beacons in 20 and 17 meters with different powers.? Al, Thank you so much for your help.? have a nice day.? 73 de IU8EUN Joseph
