Dead lcd
Tony Volpe
Could be the atmega chip that is dead. I blew up one of mine by applying too much voltage through a stupid blunder. The main sign that something was wrong was that the LCD was blank. i could hear activity on the HF RX from the DDS at 20mhz and at 125 mhz on a VHF multimode rx. I thought the LCD might be dead but when I plugged in a new atmega chip from Hans, the whole thing came back to life. Tony G0BZB

John I am happy to replace a dead LCD or dead DDS or dead chip.? BUT, I have to note here, that in the majority of cases where someone believes they have a dead component, it is usually something else wrong. A poor connection somewhere, poor power supply, poor something. I find when I build something, I am unconsciously remarkably unwilling to give much weight to the idea that I might have made a mistake. Usually the problem is something *I* did, not something wrong with a component!
So all I'm saying is - be really sure - then as a last resort, I can send you some replacement part! 73 Hans G0UPL

Hi Hans, I am quite willing to pay for another kit. My soldering is up to scratch as I have done a lot of microwave stuff and spent many years soldering from 10 yrs old to present, so I know that's good. I did recheck the soldering again and its fine. Anyone? have active pin voltages for the atmel chip and also on the DDS board? 73 John ? Digitally signed mail -

If it's any help to your fault finding, I have a spare display and a spare chip 2.02A. If you mail me your address I can stick them in the post for you on Monday morning... Philip G4JVF --- In QRPLabs@..., John Randall <m0els@...> wrote:
