ATU-100

Basic Question
Is the ATU 100 a good option to use with a QMX+
?
Tnx

Hi Paul
?
I own both ATU-10 es ATU-100
?
Out of the box:
?
ATU-10 is QRP, 10 W max
Small, light weight and rechargeable batt powered that times out after several minutes
Relays are self latching so power not required after reaching min SWR and hold that state until you change bands
Best for QCX es QMX type rigs
?
ATU-100 is QRO 100W max
Much larger and heavy, requires an external power supply?
Best for rigs like FT-857?
?
Both can be reprogrammed for input power trip point to stare tuning? plus other features
?
Both are discussed here

A practical test I did with the ATU-10 that I have is that it can be a bit slow to tune if you have an antenna
that is a bit far outside, i.e.
with too high SWR and then the SWR protection kicks in in the QMX+ before the ATU has had time to finish tuning.
?
You can turn off SWR protection in the QMX+ but... not sure I dare to do it yet.

Did you try with the tuning mode built into QMX that reduces output power?

FWIW, I run my QMX's behind a LDG RT-100C remote tuner witn no problems. I typically get 1.4:1 SWR or less on all bands, 160m - 6m, except 20m, which is typically 1.7:1. Ant is 31' vertical. RT-100 likes to hunt a lot, but I always get a match.

If you buy kit and assemble it your self then yes.
?
Pre assembled units also work but there are numerous reports on them of poor quality, air wound coils instead toroids, bad firmware and other things that are done just to make it cheaper and increase seller markup.
?
Previously used on qcx, qcx mini, now on qmx+ without issues. Operators report that it blows their finals but there are numerous reasons that can affect that.
?
If you tune on antenna that is not 5 bands apart in resonance, have done rfi properly and not trying to tune your metal flower pot as antenna you are good to go.
?
Atu-100 can tune that flower pot but it will take him time to do it.

Having trouble finding a source for the kit. All seem to be already assembled,
Any know of a kit source?

Hi Paul
Amazon sell the kit, try this:

Thanks - I guess I should have changed the subject line.
But I am trying to find an ATU-10 kit, the QRP version to use with a QMX+

To change the subject back to ATU-100 and QRP, and add "to use with a QDX" on top of that:
?
I built the ATU-100 and modified it for QRP according to what is here: ?, and I run it with my QDX low and high bands. Works wonderful. You can find the kit very cheap at AliExpress, but make sure to choose one kit that promise "real imported toroids", not the dark red Chinese ones.
?
Good luck!

Paul, I run the QMX with an ATU-10 for one primary reason. It only requires 1 watt to trigger a Tune cycle. The -100 takes 3 watts or so. With the -100 you must tune at near full power which I don¡¯t think is healthy for the finals. I have a switchable power box I built that allows me to switch to 9 volts for tuning. Works great.?

I have an ATU-100 and it worked fine with the QDX.
Now I also have QMX+ and it usually doesn't work automatically.
When I send at full power, the QMX+ goes into alarm, when I send at 60%, the ATU-100 does not tune.
It would be good if you could tell ATU-100 in which band he should work.
