Another question for builders #build #building

If you build in your home or enclosed space, do you use a smoke/fume "eater"? If so, any recommendations?

I don¡¯t use those. I do fave a fan though and it keeps the fumes away from me. The room is large. Closed in garage. Sorry I don¡¯t have a recommendation but there are plenty of them out there.?

I¡¯ve ?said it in the past¡. I love the smell of soldersmoke. ?When depressed, or have that lost with no purpose feeling I go to the shack and turn on the soldering devices (yes, more than one) and work on a kit that has been languishing down in the ¡°hole¡±¡.. After 30 minutes or so I am rejuvenated and back to normal balance. ?Been doing that since age 14. ?It still works. ? No, I do not smoke tobacco or pot¡. Both too dangerous, but a little lead and rosin in the air reminds me of my Grandpa¡¯s wood working shop and the mix of smells, a hot glue pot, and pipe tobacco in the air. Wonderful memories. ?

Oh, I forgot the sound of Van Patrick and the Detroit Tigers on the radio. ?That will give you a time frame. ?Grandpa taught me how to build things with orange crate type of wood and then veneer cover it with beautiful walnut or mahogany. ? Jewelry boxes and little lamps for the bedroom¡.. RIP Grandpa.

Be the REASON someone smiles today.

David you must be a hopeless chap when it comes to being nostalgic. I suffer from the same disease.?
?
In the last week, I have finally achieved my dream of building a large pole building. Inside of it I will have a shop for automotive and welding, then enclosed areas that will be climate controlled for a wood working shop, an art studio for my beautiful XYL, and of course a small hobby room where I can set up a nice space for amateur radio, 3D printing and laser cutting, and reloading for hunting and marksmanship.?
?
My grandson is 12 now, and I plan on exposing him to my hobbies. Perhaps he'll catch my disease as well.
?
Blessings to you sir.

I use a PC fan that I mounted a couple legs on. It serves two purposes. One to pull fumes and I can turn it around to help cool hot glue if I'm using?a glue gun.

I bought this hobby-grade snorkel-type fume extractor, , after seeing it favorably reviewed on Adam Savage's YouTube channel.? I like that I can adjust it for a workpiece on the benchtop or elevated in a vise.? My shack is adjacent to the living room, and my other family members say that it works :-).?

I too use a battery powered fan to keep the resin smoke out of my face.??

The sense of smell can be the strongest thing that can trigger memories. The smell of old canvas whips me right back to my Army days.

Naaah,
I've got a couple of incurable medical conditions so I definitely inhale, unlike Bill Clinton.
Love the smell of solder melting and whisper of smoke.
Andy.
