QMX and FT8CN fix?
I just tried FT8CN <-> QMX via USB connection and CAT PTT and everything works fine except for the fact that the audio output level seems to be too low.
So the QMX actually will enter transmit mode, but only shows the two dots in the display which clearly indicates that the received audio signal level is not high enough for proper detection of the AFSK signal, so no carrier will be transmitted. I did increase FT8CN signal level to 100% already and also tried 16bits / 32bits and all 3 sampling rates (12, 24, 48kHz), but no success. 73, Andreas, DM7AK |
Discussions on other places online indicate that this isn't an issue on the QDX, so it is possible that there is a software fix that would solve the issue. Otherwise, does anyone know how to get Android to output the correct audio level? I have search the settings and developer settings without luck. I also have a rooted phone I could try, but I don't know where to begin because I don't know what is causing the issue.

I'm having the issue as well.
I have not tried a second android device yet.? Here's the important clue. On wsjt-x with rpi one can select L, R, mono or both. L works but R doesn't.? I suspect ft8cn is using the right channel and qmx uses the left. Probably either could resolve it by using both channels. I've made minor PRs to the ft8cn code before (not yet accepted) so perhaps I'll look into this. But it seems possible Hans might be able to address it as well.? |
Thank you Angel, that did make a big difference for me, but I am still running into transmits where I am getting the two dots under the 'A' and no output. I suspect that the ultimate fix is in software.
For additional information, I get about 4 transmits before the two dots and then it may transmit again a few cycles later, but I don't see any sort of pattern to it. |
Two dots always means the audio is not at full volume. To be strictly accurate it means the audio doesn't exceed the 80% threshold defined in the settings. It's not a fault in the QMX firmware it's something about FT8CN or the phone that is causing it to reduce its volume. I don't know what. But if you want to hide the problem you can just experimentally reduce the threshold values in QMX to make it work with lower volumes.?? 73 Hans G0UPL On Fri, May 31, 2024, 22:57 James NJ1V via <jdebriyn=[email protected]> wrote: Thank you Angel, that did make a big difference for me, but I am still running into transmits where I am getting the two dots under the 'A' and no output.
