A big wind up

"p19547ct"

Got a batch of U2 filters the other day so I've been keeping
out of the heat and building them up....
Just need a 600meter one when Hans gets them in..

Used a bit of perforated board to keep them safe and easy to
just pick up and swap to the live socket for band changing...

Picture here...

Much fun

Hi Philip

I actually have the 600m and 2200m filters now, all prepared and sitting nicely in little bags waiting to ship. I haven't put them as available in the shop because I haven't had a chance to update the LPF instructions yet. Hopefully by the weekend I should have done it.?

I could put some stock in the shop as available now. By the time they arrived with you I'd have the instructions up to date. However, I wanted to get the instructions done first because I want people to beware how many turns are required, so they don't order and end up with a nasty surprise! On 600m the inductors are 64, 70, 64 turns. On 2200m, the inductors are all 105 turns. Particularly 2200m is quite a lot of winding! So people should be warned, before they buy!

OK Hans

Will watch for them to appear in the shop...just the 600m one
is all I need...

Lots of turns!
What cores will they come with?
I'd seen these designs on the Internet using T50-3 cores which I happen to have in stock..

Hi Philip

I'm using T50-2 toroids, the same as the 160m kit. I know T50-3 would require a few less turns, but I don't have those toroids in stock. If necessary I could get some T50-3 toroids in but it's kind of convenient to use the T50-2 I have already. What's your opinion?

Probably stick with the T50-2 Hans if that's what you have, anybody home brewing the very low bands will be quite used to winding hundreds of turns anyway :)

Be interesting to see how many folk buy the low end filters won't it..
As I say, I have about 20 T50-3 cores in my drawer so I would order
a filter from you and use my own toroids as it's half the number of turns....

These U2 kits are superb and really open doors to masses of experimentation and fun....

Ahh, that's an easy one to answer. ?It looks like you wound the coils the opposite way to me and so had to twist them awkwardly to make them fit on the boards.

Question now is, shall I rewind them all to make them look neater?

Nah! no chance :)
