Hi Bill.? The computer is running first.

I connected the usb cable and turned on the QDX.? The red led flashess rapidly then goes steady as it is suposed to.? My device manager does not pop up with a new port.? Also WSJT-X does not recognize teh QDX at all either.

Hi!? Have you tried this sequence...

Computer on...
Power up QDX with USB disconnected.
After QDX powers up and red flashing light stops connect USBfrom computer to QDX.

Good Luck!

I normally connect the USB, power on the computer then power on the QCX. For no reason other than it¡¯s easiest and has always worked.?

Andrew,

Have you tried all available USB ports?
A hub?
Another computer?

It is unlikely to be a fault in the QDX but it will help to be sure of that.
Note that all you need to do is look at Device Manager, the QDX should show as COM port and an audio device.

Just to add one other idea to the mix, have you tried a different USB cable? Although they are fairly reliable, I have had at least two where the wires have fractured internally.

I have a (cheap) USB cable that recognizes my cell phone and my programmer (in Windows), but the data transfer only works with the mouse or keyboard.

Hi Alan.? Thanks for the reply.? Yes I am on my 5th cable. This one did not raise the dreaded yellow "does not recognize" flag.? As to the initial problem, my bad.? Helps to solder ALL the USB jack connections HI.? New issue now is getting the CAT to work with WSJT-X.? I have tried several radios from the drop down but none seem to work.? My regular setup is with the IC7300, and that radio works fine.? Can't seem to make the QDX to work with this software.? I have tried every configuration that I can but no jjoy.? I am pretty sure there is a simple answer out there. One other issue is that the device manager is showing two com 6s, one is which a USB, while the other is one of my other connections.? The set up radio window show com6, and USB.? Neither one works though.? I diabled the actual com6 but still no joy here.

TS-440 or TS-480 CAT for the QDX

Andrew,

Disconnect the USB cable and see what devices appear in the device manager. Then insert the cable and see if any new ones appear. If none then obviously you have a problem. First thing would be to try a known good USB Printer cable. ?I suggest you "borrow" the cable from the 7300 as you know that one is good. If still no joy for the QDX then it's likely the QDX has an issue.?

Do you have a friend that runs Linux? Have them try it on their system and see if it shows up. Windows can do some strange stuff.

Use Device Manager - Properties - Port Settings - Advanced to change the USB one (QDX) to an unused number.

Note, as the manual says, for CAT use TS440. Any other is less suitable. And set Polling to 99 seconds.

If I read correctly, you have some communication between QDX and computer.

Have you run the Terminal app built into QDX? Most of the time PuTTY software is used on the computer to communicate with QDX.

If that's working then you'll want to troubleshoot with CAT Commands where you send commands and receive info from the QDX.
You can also turn on logging (normally set to OFF), get out of PuTTY, run WSJT-X and try setting up radio again. Exit WSJT-X, Run PuTTY and check the log entries. That might give you a clue as to what is or is not happening.

Hope this helps!

Hi Alan et allia.
I have not tried the remname yet but have got it to do FT8.? Made two contacts this morning on 40M.? Power is a little low 3.7 watts, but should be able to tweak the LPF coils a bit.? FT8 worked but when I tried to switch to WSPR the whole thing crashed. I am using the TS440s for radio and that works.? I will check out the advanced device manager settings.? Thanks to all of you who have given me a great deal of good advise. I downloaded putty but have not trie to use that yet?
