I just finished putting my QCX 5 plus together this afternoon. I had purchased the power cord with connector. I plugged in the power plug in and had the current limit set very low amps with 12 volts using my very old HP power supply. I turned my power supply on and it immediately went into crow bar protection from a dead short to ground. The QCX had a totally blank display no blue illumination. I unplugged the power cord and without it being plugged into my QCX my power supply still went into crowbar protection! I measured the leads to the power plug and there was a dead shot between the red and black wires to the power plug. I scrounged around in my junk box and found a power plug with wires on it that fit the receptacle. I powered up the QCX with 12 volts and it came alive! The alignment of the receiver went great and so far works as advertised. I will finish transmitter alignment tomorrow tweaking the toroid wires. I am doing the happy dance and hope to be on the air tomorrow! It was a fun kit to put together!
