What is on your work bench ?

?The new QDX? I hope :>))

With several unbuilt qrpLab kits on hand I passed up the QDX again
BUT ...never... pass up an opertunity to tout one of Hans' marvoules kits, the ProRock for example

Where else can you have this much fun for $18
No ATmega328 required, the Picaxe 08m2 ($2.92) will get-er done

Up until yesterday, I would not even be able to FIT a QDX kit on my workbench!!!

Had to replace low pass filter relays on my TT Omni VI+ yesterday. That took an hour, 2 hours to clean the workbench to be able to spend that hour on the TT!!

Have an Heathkit filter board replace to do next, Swan 700cx broken coil, Drake mic jack replacement, cabinet for QRPlabs clock, about 5 Hayseed cap kits for various rigs and several other kits (in boxes).

I don't know when I'll get to the QDX!!!

All fun though!

An almost finished 50W PA and a custom enclosure for the PA and a 1st run QCX.? Waiting on the QCX unit to return from service to complete the project.

A mock-up of an RF Finder and an old non-working 2M radio I'm going to try to repair for a friend.

Also 3 new guitar effect pedals for the youngest's pedalboard.? Nothing like replacing those name-brand pieces with custom built ones.

A Heathkit HW-101 I got from the original owner who built it in September, 1971.? It works fairly well but needs some touch up alignment along with some tweaking of an oscillator crystal or two that have changed frequency a bit over 50 years time.

MY 40 meter QCX+ works great and IMO needs no more work after I installed an audio AGC in it.

Recently removed from bench... a 30m QCX+ and a 30m 50w amp, both just built and working first time.

Put onto the bench is a 20m 50w amp that didn't work first time. I put this aside and have now revisited it.
It is now working after I spotted my mistake and corrected it. I was checking through the voltages and found I had a negative voltage on the drains of both IRF510's.... strange it should be a positive voltage. Put up the manual and checked T2 which has a bifilar winding and supplies the voltage to the drains. Yep !? I had put the leads in the wrong holes.

Leads de-soldered and re-soldered into the correct holes and the 50w amp is working. That's good 'cos it will go with the 20m QCX+ I just ordered.??? Nothing on bench now apart from a couple of leads to make up so can play at operating instead of constructing???????? >:-)

I've got 100 of TA7642 to test.? This is a replacement for the ZN-414 three-pin AM receiver chip from the 1970s, and Ive always wanted to play with them.? I got them for next to nothing from ebay and China.? I hope that at least some of them work ... and aren't re-marked floor-sweeping NPN trash-sistors.

So I've got a protoboard laid out and schematics on line, and I just need to build up a test jig.?

I'll let you know how they turn out.

I've been moving my shack from an upstairs bedroom to a downstairs one and building new benches. I just finished putting together a Mercury IIIs amp and have several couplers to build. Rewired the new shack for dedicated 120 and 240 service. Added weather-head routing with surge protections into the shack. Six or eight other SDR radios on the shelf including several QRPLabs kits.

Nice set up! I’m relegated to the kitchen table! Takes forever to drag out test equip & tools…. Then it’s lunchtime ?

Nice bench, thanx for sharing pix.??

I got a QDX in the first round, so didn't go for a second one. I'm working toward building a PSSST-20, myself. There's a groups.io group by the same name if anybody is interested. I also designed and had made some prototyping boards that you all might enjoy:

Details here at my site, including a YT video and a link to download the Gerbers or order some from PCBWay.?

But, I need parts before I get the PSSST-20 built. I also have one of PH2LB's crystal tester kits that I just finished last night and am learning to how use for the sake of building my own crystal filter. Fun stsuff!

Dust, dust and more dust.
But soon that will have to be removed to allow the QDX its day.

Frequently my workbench is on my lap in my recliner with the TV on and the XYL complaining about my mess.? We live in a small 1940s era cabin on the shores of Lake Huron with maybe 1000 sq. Ft.? She won't let me use the table so I don't have the lunchtime problem.... my problem occurs anytime I have to stand up.... gotta set everything I'm working on aside.? So Jim, I share your shack/shop envy.? Maybe someday.? Hans' kits are still fun no matter the problems with workspace.

A 1998 U.S. Fender Jazzmaster is on the bench right now for a 3 pickup mod. Not my idea of what to do to an expensive guitar but the customer is always right. Not radio related but at least I get to use the soldering gun hi hi. And then it's on to finally replacing my smoked QCX Mini for 80M.

U4B-27 will be off the bench when the clouds clear and the wind drops.
5.55 is the gram weight of the radio payload, less the antenna, which is about .6 grams... for comparison, a fat house sparrow weighs about 40 grams and a skinny one is about 25 grams.
