QCX audio crackle

So after reflowing connections and checking op-amps and joints as best I can, there is a crackle on the QCX audio that makes the unit essentially unusable. ?I'm looking for suggestions as to where to look. ?Could T-1 be the culprit? ?As far as I can tell, it's been installed correctly but when one tries to herd cats, something is bound to happen. When I check the T-1 connections, they all work. ?I've set up for 30 metres, using firmware t1.00b

When connected to an antenna, I can hear CW... so the receive works nicely... and so do all the menus and such. ?it's just the crackle I can't resolve.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Probably not your issue Barry, but today I also had loud crackle. Found the cause though was my doublet was rapidly switching itself between being a doublet and an inverted L. One half of the feeder was barely making contact. I guess you eliminated such things by listening on another RX.

I have a loud rapidly pulsing noise rendering RX useless above 12.505 MHz, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

Have you gone through all the voltages mentioned on page 125 of non-US manual? I wish I hadn't: I have found very odd things on the pins of my LCD, e.g. 5V instead of no volts on Pin 14, and 0.25V instead of 4.92V on pin 4, 4.5V instead of 1.08V on pins 7-10... using analog volt meter. Not sure what that bodes.

I guess also that you poked your finger around components to see if anything made it crackle more or less. When I had T1 wrong, it was deaf, sounds like your T1 is OK. Hopefully others can be more helpful on what to look for/

Yep... I've poked and prodded using finger power and with a non conductive probe. ( aka a plastic bar ) .? I have not checked voltages yet.? I'll likely do that this pm... I need to step away for a bit.? My LCD works like a champ.

I can't believe how difficult it it in VE land to locate toroid cores to play with.

Thanks for your response and best of luck with your project.

Anything on Earl VE3AB's site look interesting?
It seems like my browser wants to download a large
AVI file every time I click on a link. I've been
cancelling the download before completing.

Hi.

I also had a audio crackle at the first smoketest. A complete reset worked for me.

Thanks. ?I did this tonight. ?Sounds much much better!

Keith... I sure apologize for taking this long to respond.? After you mentioned Earl's web page, I had a look and simply sent him a note.? He had the parts to me in jig time!? In fact I recently needed a couple of 1/2 watt resistors... he happened to be coming in to Sudbury, so I met up with him and made the exchange.? That web page is huge.

Thanks for that suggestion.
