U3S Menu Configuration Settings
I'm having a heck of a time setting up menu configurations in a multi band U3S. I have set three, one for WSPR and two for transmitting CW. All different bands. First problem is the CW settings. I have one configuration set as:
2] 2 007,018,000 TX CW??????? 00 0 To me this means number 2] mode transmission screen; that I have selected band 2, and a frequency of 7.018 Mhz. TX CW to transmit CW as shown in para 3.10 of the Operating Manual. But how do I get rid of the 00 0 at the bottom right? They are not shown in para 3.10 and despite all my efforts I can't delete them. I must be overlooking something very simple..........? Brian VE7JKZ |
Hi Brian You don't get rid of the 00 0. I think para 3.10 needs updating...? The 00 is the index into multiple messages in the Message parameter, if you use that feature.? The 0 specifies the "Aux" setting which is the 4-bit value that appears on LCD lines D4-D7, and can be used for controlling relays and other things.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sat, Feb 2, 2019 at 5:55 AM Brian Summers <ve7jkz@...> wrote: I'm having a heck of a time setting up menu configurations in a multi band U3S. 开云体育Hi Hans, Thanks for the info, but this now leads to to other things that
are puzzling me. Assuming what I have is correct, why can I not send CW?? 3.10 states that all I need do is connect a straight key across the right (Edit) button. If I do this all that happens is the display alternates between enabled/disabled. I've inserted a couple of queries in your response below. (bottom of page) states that the message setting is not used
in TX CW mode, so why is there a 00 index in this mode?

开云体育Hi Andy, yes, as noted in post sent a few minutes after yours.
Still can't figure out why it will not send CW.? Brian On 2/1/2019 11:24 PM, M0RON wrote:

Hi Brian,?
Thinking aloud, when you configure the u3s for TXCW do you then proceed through the rest of the menu until it says "push right button "? It sounds as if you are still in configuration mode, hence operating the key will be the same as pressing the edit button which would enable / disable as you are seeing.? Andy -- The universe is made up of Protons, Neutrons, Electrons but contains only one M0RON. |
开云体育Hi Andy, Yes I did try that, to no avail. Now I'm going to give a step by step of events switching on from a cold start. This may be somewhat lengthy but hopefully there will be a clue somewhere. 1. Power on U3S. Get the welcome screen then it starts tracking the satellites, giving lat/long etc. 2. Press Menu button and see:0]-4-001,838,100 WSPR---------23-0 3. Press Menu button and see:
1]-3-003,518,000
TX CW--------00-0
4. Press Menu button and see:
2] 2 007,018,000
TX CW????????? 00 0
5. If I keep pressing the Menu key I go
through the rest of the menus until 'Press right button'. So I
press the right button and it returns to Step 1 above. I press the
Menu key again and go through steps 2, 3 and then reach 4. Key
down across the right button and it goes through enable/disable.
This is a multiband U3S of course, but
some months back when I started with a single band U3S trying to
get it to send CW I had a similar problem. It was also related to
not displaying GPS data. Since then that U3S has been devoted to
630m WSPR.
There must be many folks out there
using the U3S for CW so what have I missed? Oh, this is the
current hardware/software configuration.

Stop pressing buttons at that point (do not press the left button to go back into the menu), and try the Morse key ... I think you will find the U3S will transmit on 7.018 MHz? ? One thing for sure, the U3S will not transmit anything while in the menu mode. GL and 73, Bob? ZL1RS |
开云体育That's it! I knew I had to be doing something wrong, just a case
of knowing what it is. Tnx Bob, Andy, for helping me out. Brian VE7JKZ

Hi Brian,
you have just solved a long standing problem I had with CW not working for me too! I have a U3S Receiver. Is there also a trick to make it stay in receive mode continuously? I use it set for 'RX' mode but it only runs for 2 minutes. I have to run multiple 'RX' cycles but it has breaks at the end of each 2 minute cycle. 73 Ken G4APB |

I feed my receiver using the vfo module. It sits in a case just like my u3s, and runs independently of it. As of this minute it has been receiving 40m wspr for three or four days straight. If I want to run the u3s as well I use the rx-enable line to mute the rx, controlled by the u3s. They use different antennas. Hi Roger,
I should have explained my Rx module is part of my U3S transceiver which I also use for WSPR. The VFO module does not provide the WSPR function. But I did want to use the same rig to do Tx and Rx CW as well. There does not seem to be a continuous Rx mode as there is for TX CW mode. Guess i really want it to drop back into RX mode when not keying the Tx in CW anyway. Sorry Andy & Bob, I acknowledge you solved the TX CW problem, I got the name wrong before. 73 Ken G4APB |
开云体育Hi Ken,I assume you are asking about using the U3S 'RX' mode specifically, rather than using Park Mode for the QRP Labs Receiver kit's local oscillator signal as per the example and description in the QRP Labs Receiver kit pdf manual? 73, Bob? ZL1RS On 4/02/2019 7:16 AM, KEN G4APB via

开云体育OK Ken.? I used the U3S Park mode LO here on my QRP Labs RX for WSPR RX (single band) before RX mode was introduced more recently, and the sensitivity was fine (very little difference between simultaneous WSPR spots from the QRP Labs RX kit and my IC-7600 when Tee'd off the same RX antenna).? But I see the need for U3S RX mode in multi-band RX use.73, Bob? ZL1RS |
