Figuring out why no keyer sound and updating my QMX Menu Reference to Firmware 1_01_003

I updated my QMX and in the process I get no sound during practice.? It is sending but there is no volume.
any ideas as to the issue?? Has to be a new setting.
?
In the process of figuring this out I am updating my QMX Menu Reference.

My CW practice and normal mode sidetone volume works fine, just like before the update.
Check to see if your sidetone abs/rel or sidetone vol settings somehow got changed.

It is set for Absolute

I changed it to Relative and there was no change

In absolute,? I presume it is set to a level of 50 or higher.? One possibility- I understand that if SWR protect is triggered, the side tone won't be generated.?

Is it only the sidetone audio that is missing?? Do you still have clear audio on receive?

This will take some time to check out as I receive very little on my QMX in West Oregon, I see very few signals being transmitted in the Northwest OR on RBN or qsofinder.com.??All I have is an EFHW hung in a large plum tree for an antenna.? I will have to be patience for a signal that is close enough for me to receive.??
Part of the reason I have enough time to do practice mode CW on the QMX+ and update my easier to follow (for me anyway) .

Paul, it sounds like you may have general audio and/or receiver problems in your QMX hardware.? Even with a simple end fed half wave antenna, unless it is laying on the ground, you should be able to hear lots of cw signals, from far away, at least at appropriate times of day for the band you are tuned to.
?
Try this - put your rig in digi mode, and tune to 14.074, anytime mid-morning to about 9pm or so local time.? You should clearly hear the tons of FT8 operators with their slowly modulating tones.? You may need to turn the volume control a couple of revolutions to get the level up.? If you have any trouble getting a strong audio signal of the FT8, we need to debug something in your receiver/audio chain or overall setup.

Got it , I was on 50 M after my upgrade trying to practice code.? And I had disabled 160 an 50M so I do not accidently Xmit on them as my ant does not do them, apparently this also disable practice mode on disabled bands.?
?
But the process of checking out different the band for signals again, I checked my key on each band and practice was working.? I also heard that I am now hearing better than I was, I had given up even looking much.? It is still a lot of work turning the dial and hunting for signals before they disappear from RBN, that happen a lot.? Whew.? ? If I use the underline numbers place it will lock up the radio necessitating a power unplug, so I avoid that or may need to do it slower, I may just be doing it to fast or to much.? It would be so cool to be able to scan the band your currently on with this radio.
?
I am receiving CW when I hunt for it. I have a lot of noise.? Right now at 10am PT Sat 3/29 most on 10M it is noisy but It does seem to be receiving a bit better after the upgrade.??

Very glad you have it working!? And yes, it would be nice to have a scan function, or a panadapter to see where signals are.
Actually, for CW mode, you can connect the QMX to your computer, enable the I/Q mode, and use SDR software as a panadapter, which works reasonably well.

I'm not sure exactly what you are describing, but this should not be happening.? No normal use of the buttons or their functions will cause a lock-up with the current firmware, so there is likely a fault that could be fixed.? If you want to pursue diagnosing this, please describe what exactly you are doing that will lock up the radio, and I'll try to help.

That sounds interesting for when using at home, but complicated.

A bit complicated to set up at first, but then just plug-n-play.

I just spent hours at trying to get airspy working it will not connect. Don't worry I do not expect anyone to try to explain it online. :)? It was just a curiosity thing if it would work.? Just wanted to try it. Thank you for mentioning it though. Your off the hook.??

Sorry, I didn't mean to send you down a long rabbit-hole.? I have no idea how to make airspy work, either.? Someone else here used NaP3, and posted the way they set it up, and that's what I have used.? So if you ever want to try again, maybe search these messages for NaP3 and use that approach, or post a message asking for a program and setup that work nicely with QMX.
