The QMX uses (roughly)? 12V at 1A on transmit to produce about 5 watts of RF output power, leaves 7 watts to be dissipated by the radio.
That's an appreciable amount of heat so depending upon the transmit duty cycle (receive is ~1W) one would expect a fair amount of temperature rise.??

A 10 watt dummy load dissipating 7W would get hot enough to burn your hand; there is no need to ask why I know this.??
