iPhone camera adapter, receive but no send?

Hey all!
?
Just got a cheap lightning to usb “camera adapter” to try to do some ft8 while on lunch break using iFTX.?

I’ve noticed I can receive and decode ft8 no problem, but when I call cq audio only comes out my phone and doesn’t go into the radio.?

I have VOX enabled and all other settings are standard. Is there some config item in the radio I’m missing?

I’ll ask the obvious: is CW “practice mode” enabled? That’ll prevent transmit.?

Thanks for getting back to me!?

No practice mode is disabled. I’m able to transmit when I plug into my laptop no issues.
?
I will briefly see the microphone icon in the upper left of my phone, so I’m pretty sure the receiving side is good to go.?

I shouldn’t hear any sound right? That’s not just an artifact of iFTX?

Jeff, if you haven't done so already, go online to this group's message page and do a search for "iftx".? There are a few threads with users sharing settings and resolving problems.?

Hey Stan!
?
I've been searching for a few days now, but I couldn't find anything specific to this issue which is why I wanted to surface a new thread. I'll poke back through and see if there's anything I may have missed. Thanks!

One more thing to be mindful of: order of connection and startup is important and iFTx is quirky.
?
I would start with the radio "cold and dark" and the iFTx app force-closed, with the radio disconnected. Plug the adaptor into the phone, then the USB cable from the adaptor to the radio.
?
From here, things get murky for me but try starting the radio up next, THEN opening the iFTx app. Failing that, go back to "cold and dark" and instead of starting the radio first, open the iFTx app first, then switch on the radio.
?
I also tend to force-close the iFTx app frequently as it can lock up from time to time.
?
Also ensure cables are well and truly RFI choked - that has shut me down on more than one occasion.

So this is what I love about ham radio, the spirit of “let’s try it again with some tweaks”.?

Good news I got iFTX working and transmitting, and even got my first DX from east of Paris (shoutout F4GTB!).?

As was said above, order matters when hooking the cables up and getting on the air.?

Thanks for your patience y’all. Really appreciate it.?

As a token of appreciation, here’s where I was just setup. Not pictured is my phone doing ft8 for obvious reasons haha! Weather is mid 60s with a light breeze and a shady portico. My happy place haha!

What in the world is the yellow chalk box with BNC doing on the table?

Haha! That’s an EFHW I built using a tiny transformer and some 26lb steel fishing line. It’s spooled so I can deploy it quickly and has knots at each band so I know where to clip the pigtail.?

Works pretty great! That day I had about a 1.5-1.6 SWR the entire time I was transmitting.?

Very clever!? I'd love to see some details for the transformer build and maybe some pic's of the details of the chalk box build, if you have time.? No counterpoise?

Correct no counterpoise since it's such low power. I don't have any pictures of the build process, but here's the transformer that I was able to coax into the opening:
?
?
Basically I just have the wire around the spool, and at certain intervals I've got knots where each band approximately is, akin to this video:
?
I can totally send more pics later if you're interested in seeing more details! It's really handy for my circumstances.
