Morning Paul
In the northern Willamette Valley, “Tigard Oregon” about 7:00 pm local time nightly on 28.130 there is a CW net hosted by AB1LL “Bill” that is open to all, he suggests that you operate at 10-20 words per minute. I try to login when I can. You being near Eugene you might not hear him but he’s there

They do make one in those bands.? Hans net merical is adding SSB to his QMX HF line of radios.?
I just received a QMX+ and while not interested in CW with it I plan to use it for practicing CW ( I am currently at 12 with 7 Farnsworth. )
I visited here to see what your CW QRP weekly or monthly schedules are.? Have not found it yet other than the? in WA and the ? and events. ?
Do you have any other online or on the arr events for the rest of the N.W? ? ? ? ?

I am in the Willamette Valley OR.? I also plan to partake in the Oregon Fun with More Code who practice at 10 WPM.

Fun with Morse Code

This net is to provide practice and feedback to those who are learning Morse code. It’s a great place to go slow but get it right.

I brought up this question eons ago and it was kind of poo-pooed.? I think the main argument was that the majority of builders don't have the precision in assembly required for success at VHF frequencies.? I think it would still be interesting.

This is the thread I started.

I like the idea since 2m ssb radios are so rare, or expensive.

A second hand FT897 is hardly expensive?

Spurious regulations are tougher in this spectrum because it's used for public safety. Perhaps a tiny SA may not be good enough. So filters might have to be factory aligned. Perhaps better to assemble entire vhf uhf rig at the factory.?
A 144 MHz transceiver that could also receive 432 MHz might be interesting.?
But the entrepreneur gets to decide what is viable.?

Why not just get a transverter?
There was a ham in Ukraine that had a store before the war started. No one else seems to be interested in picking up that mantle (that I’m aware of).

Hi Curt,
?
I can't see why a tinySA wouldn't do the job, I think that its dynamic range is 70dB, that might not be good enough to measure the good quality cavities of a 2m repeater but plenty enough to check the harmonics of a TRX.
?
I think that if Hans were to fill the spare space in a QMX+ box with a 2m/70cm transverter or TRX, he would have the successor of the FT817!

Tiny SA is fine for HF - VHF harmonic level compliance checks PROVIDED that you know what you are doing.?

Basically there's a very narrow window of absolute input powers where both a main carrier and a harmonic 50 0r 60dB smaller can both be believed and measured accurately at the same time on a tiny SA and also a need for a test environment, cabling and external input attenuators that perform the same at each frequency under consideration.?

Everyday someone posts their 'results' to the internet using a telescopic receive antenna, way wrong input levels, DIY attenuators / taps? or other crazy methods settings as a way of demonstrating what they don't know . .?
Back in the day it was a full day's course to even? 'basic qualify' to make required measurements on a spectrum analyser.? ?
Today . . .? Just go for it mate !

Dave, W2KV and I installed a 10 watt 2M transverter inside of a Uniden President HR2510 radio back in the '90s.? Maintained both 10M and 2M operation.
Should be a piece of cake in the QMX+.

I have a Ten-Tec 1210 transverter that should work just fine with a high-band QMX. W1GHZ had designed a simple 2 metre transverter for the Flex-1500 that could probably be reworked by someone handy with Kicad...

I bought a 6 meter transverter from him last year. I tried it with a?QCX with usdx conversion with 10 m filtering and power reduced to 300 mw. Made 6 contacts on FT8?and then the band went dead before I had a chance to try it for SOTA.? Puts out about 10 w.?
