I am trying to get WSJT-X running on my QMX+.? I have experience with this software but can¡¯t figure out why I receive the following message when I open WSJT or Enable Tx. ? ¡°Error in Sound Input ¨C An error opening the audio input device has occurred¡±? ? A few details. I am running Windows 11: My Sound settings are set for 100% volume Input and Output set to Digital Audio Interface ¨C QMX Transceiver (Volume set to 100%)? QMX Transceiver is showing COM8 in Device Manager ? WJST General Settings has my callsign and grid entered Audio settings ¨C Set to QMX Transceiver for Input and Output Radio is set to TS440S and the Test CAT is working properly ? Howard N8HO |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHoward, I experienced this. Now I don¡¯t. Here is how:First, power down the pc and the radio. I know it sounds like a beginner but just try it.? See if that fixes it. No? Turn off Bluetooth in your pc. Then repeat first step above.? I know it sounds like beginner stuff. I have been in computers since the 80s so I don't mean any insult. I find these two steps have helped me and others as well.? If still no, then maybe someone else can help.? Paul Wamble K5EBP? 214-405-5876 cell? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? I've had the same issue, assuming WSJT is set up right, com port selected. ? I need to boot up my laptop, then connect the QMX+ to the com port and power it up, then and only then run WSJT. ? I've found I get the same error as you if I don't follow that sequence or power off the QMX+ while WSJT is running. ? HTH.... ?????????????????????????????????????? Tom, W6TOM ?

I have experienced this also.??

If I am running with WSJT-X and I do something to disrupt the USB flow, I have this issue,
?
I expect it. The designers of WSJT-X do not expect the sound card to go away while you are using their software.? If you turn off a radio that does not use sound card internal to the radio, the CAT will go away, but not the sound card.? WSJT-X does a good job of handling reconnecting to the CAT (i.e, it puts up a dialog telling you something went wrong and gives you a chance to retry), but the sound card is a bit more finnicky.
?
When the sound card interface goes away, WSJT-X does not automatically reconnect after power has been reapplied to the QMX+.? It is relatively easy to work around... you just have to go to the setup menu and reselect the sound card after you have turned the radio back on,??
?
I believe that the fix for this is in WSJT-X.? I do not believe that Hans can fix this in firmware.? WSJT is open source.? The sound card interface going away is probably not a difficult thing to discover, and reconnecting is probably pretty easy.? I don't have time to look at it, but if someone does, it would probably make a lot of users happy.

The problem is in Windows 11 where it sometimes does not "see" the QMX as a sound card.? To compound this, when WSJT-X starts, it does a quick inventory of what sound devices are available.? If the QMX is not there at that time, it won't show up later, even if you fix the disappearing QMX device in Windows 11.
?
The best course when this happens is to exit WSJT-X, unplug and plug in again the QMX, make sure it is recognized by Windows 11, and then restart WSJT-X.
?
This doesn't happen all the time, but it is enough to be annoying.
?
At least this has been my experience and my 2 cents.
