Integration of QMX with QLG2 GPS Receiver module kit ??
Hi -
?
I am considering buying a QMX (mid-band) and ordering it pre-built with the enclosure.
?
I am curious - if I purchase the QLG2 GPS kit at the same time -? with the assembly of the QMX by QRP-Labs, will they integrate The QLG2 into the QMX enclosure with the pre-build, or do I need to do that part myself after I receive it?
?
Not sure how the QLG2 integrates with the QMX, lots of questions.
?
Any inputs would be welcomed!

Hi John
QLG2 is not internal to QMX. QLG2 is external and you plug it in to the QMX paddle port (3.5mm stereo plug connector); you also need to provide 5V supply for QLG2 separately. When we produce an assembled QMX we install it in the enclosure but we don't build other options which you order, the QLG2 and/or dummy load. QLG2 is an assembled board anyway, only the SMA connector?and USB connector need to be soldered on; but you will need to make your own cable for connecting to QMX.? In the case of QMX+ it's GPS option is QLG3 and this is an internal module of QMX; in this case on an assembled QMX+ radio we DO install and test the QLG3.?? ?
Currently the primary purpose of the GPS addition is to facilitate accurate timing when you use the standalone WSPR beacon feature.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Hi Hans,
?
I had asked the following question awhile back:
?
I have a QLG2 lying around. Since I acquired the QMX+ from you at Hamvention, I thought about using it Inside the QMX+ as it has a lot of unused space.
?
I realize the QLG3 is made for the QMX+ but thought maybe the QLG2 could still be used. I also realize they are different units so the pinouts would be different.
?
But are they Too Different to be used in this situation? Just a wiring fix and maybe a case modification?
?
Any thoughts would be Helpful.
?
Thank You and Keep up the Great Work you do!

Hello Kevin QLG2 could be wired to a 3.5mm plug and connected externally to the QMX+ Paddle port in the same way you'd use it on QMX.? If you want to install QLG2 inside then assuming you'll take care of the mechanical aspects, the wiring would also not be difficult; you'd want to re-configure the jumpers on the QLG2 (according to its manual) to provide 3.3V logic level outputs; then just wire 1pps and TXD to the corresponding pins of the 1x5-pin header that the QLG3 plugs into. You could also power QLG2 from the 5V rail, or remove it's regulator and power it from the?3.3V bus.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Tue, Jul 23, 2024 at 10:42?PM Kevin Gilot NZ1I via <kevinemtid=[email protected]> wrote:

Thank you Hans!?

That¡¯s the information I was looking for! I¡¯m not that worried about the mechanical aspects as I am about the proper wiring. I don¡¯t want to blow anything up. Although as a now Retired Firefighter, I don¡¯t mind a bit of smoke. As long as it¡¯s not coming from a project I am working on.
