Plug/Socket inverted

Hi,
I have been carefully constructing a QMX and for some reason had a complete brain fade at page 46.
?
The issue is..
I've put the male pins on the mainboard rather than the female sockets. Can you see any issue if I just proceed and put the female sockets on the display board ?? They should just plug in, but I am concerned as to if there is anything I cannot foresee.
?
I think the issue for me was the text says (female) in brackets?but the picture looks like the male header pins not the square female sockets. I am a visual person.
Will I be ok ?
?
Thanks
Tim

Hello Tim,

among this discussion the same problem was mentioned. There was a contact problem. The Om solved it by new parts an told the source of this parts.

Sorry, I've forgot the link. Here is it.

Been there, done that! You only have to replace ONE of the three connectors. ?Two can be used with reversed genders-one must be changed. I¡¯ll have to dig to find my pics if it¡¯s not obvious which one has to be changed. ?

Outside two are ok to be reverse gender. Internal one has to be changed. ?See pics! It works fine like this ??

Thank you so very much Mark for your reply and pictures.
I will need to somehow remove the center wrongly placed male pins then.
I have found in the past, if I use a destructive method on the pins I can remove one pin at a time and it saves the PCB from damage.

Thanks again for the images.

The male side- carefully wedge up and remove the plastic. Heat and remove each pin. Generally the pins can go back into the plastic and the connector re-used. Not so for the female side.?

Hi, this does sounds like a better plan.
Now that I think more about it, I have a DIL IC removal tool that could be used to slide the plastic up.
Cheers

I think having a couple pins and female headers spare is always a good idea if you work with this type of kits/projects. They can be ordered on aliexpres,?for only a couple bucks you get hundreds?of headers, and in a situation like this you can easily break the pins, desolder one by one, and install a new one.?

Hello,
It seems I did the same thing as Tim and inverted the male/female plugs.?

I¡¯ve read the mail here, and understand that the two outside plugs are just as happy left inverted.
?
So, now it¡¯s all about salvaging the centre header pin (4 pin plug). ?
Question: can the long pins be cut down (about 4 mm) and left there? ?
?
The spacer used on the control board is there to adjust the board height and place on top of the nylon spacers. ? If that is the only function of the spacers, then can the male plug prongs be trimmed to height?

Has anyone tried this? Or, is there another function performed by the spacing that I¡¯m also missing¡. Possible since I¡¯m the guy who messed up in the first place ¡
?
Advice? Wisdom? ?Suggestions?
Thanks,
Dan ?VE7CTN?

I think I have a few 2x4 female pin header sockets in my parts bin. Let me know if you want me to send you one in the mail.
Have you already soldered the male pin header to the mainboard?

Thanks for the offer.
Yes, unfortunately, I have soldered the male 4 pin to the board. ?I¡¯m trying to think of a way to salvage this without desoldering (makes a mess). ?But, I may not have an alternative.
Still wondering if I can just shorten those 4 pins by about 4mm - should bring it to level with the nylon spacer.?
