QDX only powering up when USB is connected

Hi,?

Small issue with my QDX. Nothing critical, but it seems to power up only when it's connected via USB to a computer. Formware is 1.10. Could there be a settign in the firmware that I missed that causes this behavior??

Thanks and 73 de Volker EA7KLK

Check the soldering on the power connector. ?You may be completing the GND when USB is plugged in.

Thanks. Not that but the ground on the output of my LM2596 voltage downconverter, (I have a 12V build and run it at 11.5V, instead of the 12.8V my power station puts out) but all in all the right answer

There is also a problem. Easy to decide. The diameter of the hole in the case cover opposite the power connector is small, and the cord connector does not fully fit into the device socket. The hole diameter needs to be increased. I won't say how much. I did this without measurements. The same thing happens on the PA-50 case cover. I also had to increase it. I had contact flickering and the connector was getting hot.

The power connector comes in different lengths.
The one available from QRP Labs is correct, but I also had some I bought from another supplier.
I made up a longer cable using one of these without realising.
It took me a few minutes of worrying that there was something wrong with my previously fully working QMX before I realised that the power connector was intermittent.
The short one is just too short.
Using the previous cable immediately restored correct operation.
Enlarging the hole in the case would allow it to go in further, but that is a solution to a self induced problem…
Ive bought some of the correct length plugs!

I received them from QRP LAB. I had to bore out the housing hole with a needle file.

Okay, fair enough, I don’t have a QDX or the amp.
There must be a difference with them in the position of the power socket relative to the panel and then the panel hole size matters.
