Re: USBISP AVR programmer of choice
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI've always used either the USBasp or the USBtiny to use on the U3S.?
Unfortunately I managed to bugger one of my QCX IC's up using the USBasp but I'm pretty sure I was to blame for that as I was too eager to update to version b software.?
Luckily I had another one from my second kit and used the USBtiny which gave me no hassle.?
I've never had a problem with the USBasp in the past except for this one occasion. User error was certainly to blame though.?
There is a very good right up on the QRPlabs site.?
This uses the arduino and also gives excellent results.?
If I were to say which one I'd use in future, I'd probably say the Tiny as it seems a bit more reliable. For me anyway.?
They're cheap enough to have one of each so I'd say get one of each and give them a whirl.?
I use AVRDUDESS on the U3S and on the QCX I'm pretty sure I wiped the eep side of things and this is bad as I found out..!!! As I say, too eager and in a rush.?
But if you don't experiment you never find out. I found out what not to do Hi.?
If you google USBasp or USBtiny you'll come across dozens of these for sale.?
Regards, James.?

Re: QCX perfect encosure
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn (PD7MAA), Did you use the plastic stand-offs in the kit, or, use your own stand-offs?? If you used those supplied in the kit, did you have to file anything off of them to fit in the aluminum cabinet?? Since the PC board is mounted from the bottom, the length of the stand-offs are critical for proper exposure of the display through the top window cut-out. Greetings, A GPS Receiver Kit was ordered at the same time, and it will be my next build. Then I will be learning how to use it. I ordered my QCX Kit on 21 August. I got my email shipping notification on 2 October, and it arrived on 11 October. I finished building and aligning it on 18 October. This is a snapshot of the QCX powered by a 9V battery, with Walkman headphones, and with a homebrew QRP Dummy Load attached. ? On Wed, Oct 11, 2017 at 8:44 AM, Lee <Lee@...> wrote:

Re: 20m QCX - output power issue
Hi Olgierd, I had some similar problems with my 20m QCX.? The issue of output power changing after key down was due to the two inner low pass filter capacitors, C25 and C26 I think.? I changed them for some 200V ATC capacitors and the power output then remained stable after key down.?? The next issue started after trying WSPR.? This is the same as your key down sometimes with high power and sometimes with low power.? After touching up all the solder joints and getting nowhere, I changed the PNP key shaping transistor Q6 (2N2907) and it was fixed.? This transistor is running close to its limits and has been replaced with an MPS751 in later kits I understand. Cheers, Glenn VK3YY. 20m QCX - output power issue
Hi everyone,
I've completed my #391 QCX build for 20m. The receiver works well, but I discovered a strange problem with the power going out, as on the video: I'll try to trace the path of signal with my oscilloscope soon, but maybe someone here experienced such behavior or has any idea about the probable cause. The PA section isn't too complex so there's just a few elements to check. Lovely rig:-) Olgierd SQ3SWF |
Re: Controlling U3S with Microcontroller?
Hi Dan The U3S software is not open-source.? For your project, you could consider an Arduino, and the QRP Labs Arduino shield? with Si5351A Synth module and a Low Pass Filter for the band of your choice. The Arduino shield has the same PA as the U3S, and you can use this set-up as a transmitter. You can find Arduino examples on the web page too, that show how to configure the Si5351A Synth.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Oct 18, 2017 at 8:56 PM, <cmdrdan@...> wrote: Hi, |
Dead/Damaged SI5351A Chip in CW Transceiver?
I¡¯ve assembled my CW transceiver kit and started on alignment. All was good until I tried aligning the BPF. The alignment screen works but no amount tuning of C1 will produce any signal or peak. Going through and checking voltages around the board shows the expected voltages with the exception of Clock 1 which has no reading, Clock 0 has the expected 1.7volts. I¡¯ve attempted to re-solder the pads on the SI5351 by flooding the pads and then removing excess solder. No change Clock 0 works but nothing from Clock 1. Also checked to make sure the Clock 1 line is not shorted. Do I have a damaged chip? Any other tests that can be applied?

WSPR and WSPRnet
Hello all.....
I just joined the WSPRnet. I have been qrp most of my licensed period.
I use an HW-8, Argo II, V, VI for qrp cw on 15m and 40m.
I hope to have a QCX transceiver for 40m and 17m.
How does WSPR program function after you log in?
Can it also be used with the?HW-8, Argo II, V, VI.
I apologize but getting my feet wet in this area.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
73!

Dan K1DAS Sounds like an interesting project.? I have been doing something along the same lines, but using a and Morse Code as the communication protocol.? There are examples and libraries available on-line for sending and receiving Morse Code with an Arduino.? Data rates are slow, but the protocol is well known and easy to work with.? Others (the purists clan) will probably tell you to use other protocols. Pixie transceivers I am using are the design shown on Roger G3XBM's web site. ? You could use almost any of the QRP transceivers that are shown on the Internet, including the U3 series from Hans G0UPL . Some have more power, but for short range telemetry almost any will work.? If you want to use the Internet as part of your data link, things get a bit more complex but there is Arduino example code for that as well. Contact me off-group if you want to talk more about this.? Back to the original power with no problems.? For the first time, this unit is getting remote spots. I should take comfort in the fact that of all the problems and miseries I've had from these units, not one has traced back to a construction error on my part. |
