Re: Why twist wire
Karl, the instruction page for the output transformer said it helps avoid a very low parasitic resonance on bands from 20 meters and higher.

Update suggestions for QMX+ Assembly Instruction Manual
Coming from an age of mainframe computers, I have got the habit of reading
manuals and following them word by word. I found the instructions good to
follow, in general. However, being academic, I get

Re: New build QMX - high noise on all bands
I'm running my QMX from a Farnell stabilised bench power supply so I'm not expecting too much noise from that. Additionally I've used a clip on ferrite choke because it appeared that, on transmit,?

Re: Tearing my hair out
That seems odd. Isn't that the usual recommended cap to use on the output of the regulator?
Glad you got it fixed!

Re: Installing firmware on new QMX build
Brent, like Chris wrote using the terminal is the best way to go on. If you go to your computer helper show him the operational manual. Section 3 provides the information about the terminal

QMXplus anomaly in stand-alone WSPR /

I ran a small test today, with my QMX+ (Rev 1), trying to reproduce a WSPR anomaly that was mentioned on FB.
QMX+ in stand-alone WSPR mode (i.e. no PC connected, no WSJT-X) on 20m (14.097200 MHz). The

Brent,
There is no need to do another software upload because you have done one.? The LCD backlight coming on shows this.? Hans says so and he should know.? A long press on the volume button

Problem? I am running a 7805 for logic and a 7809 for pa. There is a 4700uf electrolytic across the input, 0.33uf caps on both input leads to regulators and 0.1uf caps on the outputs. In

Here is an article that explains it for me:

My take is that the twisting of the wires together adds

Hey Brent,
It sounds like you're nearly there! If you can turn the backlight on and off with the encoder button, then it sounds like you did, in fact, get the firmware loaded! It's much easier than

Re: Why twist wire
RF transformers are well understood.
But not by me.
In my last post I said:
The twisted pairs are using 1 wire from the input winding and 1 wire from the output winding,
not the more obvious 2

Karl,
The first paragraph of the Assembly instructions tells of the painstaking development of the transformers.
It tells of many experiments, carefully tested, of the final best outcome.
As far as
