Re: Q: Replacement for BS170?
Fellows, one more small point on using a Zener in QCX... The QCX PA is designed as a Class E amplifier. As such, the tuning of its output circuit is somewhat critical to maintaining Class E

Re: Q: Replacement for BS170?
Bruce and Bryan, Both the QCX and QMX series of radios have key click filtering that reduces the end-of-transmission spike that I believe is killing most QDX BS170s. The combination of high SWR and

Re: I let the smoke out¡
Mike, " All 3 legs of Q507 measure 11.5 Volts RMS in both transmit and receive states" . You probably mean 11.5V DC, but whatever... That is a problem! You need to find the reason and correct it

Re: Field power method for QMX 9 volt?
Never had an RFI problem with even the cheap eBay buck converters. You could also use a 7809 regulator on a small heat sink. That's what I do at home from my 13.8VDC PS.

Re: Field power method for QMX 9 volt?
I haven't done this yet myself, but will be soon for a QDX. I'm looking at either a battery back that has a PD USB-C output, and then use a cable set up for 9V, or getting a battery pack that can put
