Re: QMX Fail on power up
The initial spike on the power button press made me think the body of the volume encoder might have shorted to the back of the power socket. Look for evidence on both surfaces. I let smoke out due to

Re: QMX - 80, 30, & 20M Dead
If it were me, I'd go straight for the solder joints on L506, L510, L511, and L513. Do you have a jeweler's loupe? Those toroids are damn tricky to solder. I scraped my wires with a box cutter after

Re: QMX PTT Out not working
Hi Tom.
Thanks for sharing your experience with PTT Out. When you say it worked initially for a few minutes, was it perhaps working under an earlier firmware version, but not now (under latest, which

Future wishes
Hopefully we won't drive Hans crazy, but here are my wishes.
Obviously AM, SSB, SWR, AGC and a mid frequency version plus:
* A programable low power mode
* Protection against high SWR
* A tuning mode

Re: QMX RF sweeps
Karl,
I went back and reviewed this whole thread and didn't see transmit power output for your rig posted (unless I just missed it). If the LPF's aren't working then the Rx plots won't look good. So

Still in 1_00_009
Hold right encoder down long to swap A<->B. This works but now try to change VFO with a short click of right encoder and it does not work. Instead it transfers A to B (Combo

Re: Stripping enamel insulation off of magnet wire & Rotary Magnet Wire Strippers
It helps if your iron temperature is set high.? Otherwise the enamel doesn't burn off as easily.

Re: QMX - 80, 30, & 20M Dead
One of your LPFs is good 40 and 60 share one. On the schematic the top and
bottom LPF are the ones you need to double check

Thanks for the quick feedback, Mike.? I'm getting close to the limits of my electronics skills. Will be checking the LPF LC connections for starters.

Re: Test buck converter out of circuit ??
Check that you don't have the Q103 to Q104 short from a solder bridge during manufacture.
Top left corner of Q103 (top tab) to the single pin on Q104. That pops D101. (like mine!)

Re: Test buck converter out of circuit ??
I think this is a really good idea.? The power supply boards have the ability to destroy the rest of the radio.? By the time a builder powers on their QMX, they have invested a lot of time.? The

Re: QMX - 80, 30, & 20M Dead
You need to get power out on the two lpf’s that are not working, only then
can you assess if either of the two suspect bpf’s need work.

Re: Stripping enamel insulation off of magnet wire & Rotary Magnet Wire Strippers
I do similarly, some of the time with a butane lighter, especially for
heavier magnet wire. But for thinner wire, I use the plasma discharge from
an electric plasma lighter. It's faster and cleaner

Re: Test buck converter out of circuit ??
Yes, that can work.
The keypoint here is to limit the applied voltage so that a 100
percent duty cycle does not result in the destruction of the Zener at
the output.
