Re: What PC are You using for QDX?

Yes, with the Quadra I got frustrated trying to get the install packages to work -- too many missing dependencies.? I'm not a Linux geek so I tried "sudo apt-get install wsjtx" (and js8call and direwolf) and it all came together.? It seemed like the latest versions, but if not at least they all started up.? I haven't yet tried actually using direwolf on the Quadra, but it starts OK.? WSJTX and JS8Call seem to operate just fine.

By way of an update, I recently picked up a "Quadra" from "Inovato.com" its a tiny PC (just slightly smaller than a pack of King Size Cigarettes!) - it comes with Armbian Linux preloaded 'and just simply works' right out of the box!

There is a Quadra Group on groups.io but check out the forum on the Inovato site. By way of a 'plug' I bought mine on an impulse and while it took about 8-10 Days to arrive here in Canada.

So, what's the 'down-low' well, it's less than $30 and with shipping it arrives in Canada for about $70 - no taxes as its under $40 - What's not to like?
From reading up on the different groups, it's akin to a Pi3 and not up to heavy YouTube use - but running Ham Software and light browsing is just amazing!

At this point I encourage you to check out "HamPi" at?[email protected]?because you will 'definitely' want to add this (originally-Pi4_ award-winning FREE Software package to your Quadra!

How easy is it to configure/use - lets just say from the Quadra hitting my Porch to My First WSJT-X QSO was roughly 24hrs! (and I'm a Linux Newbie and Age 76)

The real Secret is it's a a ready to run - 'repurposed' NEW Quad Core TV Box? - well supported in Oregon USA by "Inovato" and hams have discovered it will run "HamPi" Software Suite (created by Dave Slotter, W3DJS)

See Video:

The HamPi suite contains WSJT-X and "QDX" works just fine, so as a backup PC or 'headless' server it might just be for you?

Re: What PC are You using for QDX?

Neil,

Works FB for most apps. Wsjtx packages are usually a number of versions behind the newest so if you want the newest and greatest then you need to build it yourself. Once the libraries are installed then future builds go very simply.

Albert, you must not have a clue what you are doing.... It takes more time to plug everything up. On the air in minutes after that... sorry you are having trouble....

There's a couple of ways to put Wsjtx on the Qradra Plus.

I just installed last week and what I found was that the easiest is:?

sudo apt update
sudo apt install wsjtx

That will get you version 2.30 as of last week.

To get the latest version you need to download the latest source and follow the instructions, especially pulling in all the required build libraries. I found when I did that that the build worked fine, but running wsjtx it couldn't see the audio card. It was missing a couple of libraries needed to function in the system. The sudo apt install wsjtx pulled in the missing libraries, but left the new version as the installed version so all was well.

yup, 3kHz for 100 simultaneous contacts vs
3kHz for ONE ssb contact is really wrecking
anarchy on the entire rf spectrum.

Doesn't seem like this particular talk group
is very appropriate for attitudes like that.

Re: QDX FST4W-300 Transmits only 2 tones? #qdx

V1.06 installed (quick and easy! -- Thanks, Hans!)

But as expected, the fine-frequency setting still exhibits the problem.? Whether the QDX emits two or three tones during FST4W-300 operation probably depends on where the tones fall within the set of tones?"achievable" with the current algorithm.

Re: QDX FST4W-300 Transmits only 2 tones? #qdx

I am running firmware 1.05 on the V3 board, and the problem is pretty obvious, with FST4W-300 being unusable (one tone is entirely skipped over):

The 0.180 Hz tone spacing of FST4W-900 is even worse (only two tones output):

As a measurement check here is the FST4W-900 output from my IC-7200:

All measurements made with my home-built Time Interval Counter, using the internal digital mixer to translate the RF frequency down into the audio-frequency range.? The displayed frequency is the mixer output, and somewhat arbitrary.? What matters is the difference frequency of the tones.? These tests were done on the 30-meter band.

I will eventually install V1.06 firmware, but I think Hans would have mentioned it if this had been improved.
