Re: Will a U3S TX OK at 950kHz?

Many "hacked" websites got hacked because one of their admin's password got leaked, often from somewhere outside of the website, like the admin's own computer, or when the admin uses the same password on an easier-to-hack website.
Those easier-to-hack sites, of course, are those using outdated software with known holes published on papers and on open source attack tools. Often these hacks are fully autonomous or semi-automatic using ready made open source malware kits, and basically there's no way one can pinpoint the attacker's location or country. The so called "source of attack" based on source IP Address is 99.99999% chance just another victim's computer. Of course the ISP who forgot to update their server's software will blame it on Russia or China to make it easier on themselves. - Back on topic, though, is the "0300z to 0400z" time slot on UTC Tuesday (April 30th) or UTC Monday (April 29th)? |
Protective Enclosure for QCX 40
I've completed a QCX 40 and have gone down several paths looking for an enclosure.? My solution turned out to be a mashup of ideas from Ken WA4MNT, Goran Z35O and Ronan 2M0EZA and resulted in the purchase of a Flambeau Model 2003 fishing tackle box.? The box measure approx 3 1/2 by 7 inches (9 by 18 cm) and cost $3.00US.? The only modification to the QCX kit was trimming the 12mm standoffs about 3mm to lower the volume pot to the base of the box.? This allowed the top to close without undo pressure on any of the knobs.? The enclosure keeps ear buds,? a paddle and a dummy load in one "splash' proof container with power pigtails that can connect to a variety of sources.? I use this to feed a QRPGuys antenna tuner that then goes into an end-fed dipole.? The enclosure works well for the damp western Oregon environment.

Will a U3S TX OK at 950kHz?
Chris Wilson 25 April 2019
I want to drive a class D amp that needs double the desired frequency input. I am away at the moment with no access to the U3S, will they TX at around 950kHz to allow the halving by the amp, and with X2 enabled, for WSPR TX? Output taken direct from CLK0. Thanks. -- 2E0ILY Best regards, Chris mailto:chris@... -- Best regards, Chris Wilson (2E0ILY) |
Nice work on the case!? I use a KX Single Lever mini-paddle from the QRPGuys.? I rewired the socket for a 3.5mm stereo plug on a few inches of three conductor wire from model train world.? Just finished an outdoor enclosure myself and I'll try to post some photos this evening.

Re: Kit shipping
My "Christmas in April" goodie box is now in Florida!! I expect I'll see it likely tomorrow, worst case Saturday. Few datapoints: Time from original dropoff at postal facility to departing Turkey: 6 days Time from departing Turkey to arrving in Jamaica, NY: 15 days (though, felt like 150, lol) Transport thru US, NY to FL and my doorstep: 3-4 days (dependent on if I get it tomorrow or Saturday) @Hans...I assume you still would benefit from getting a pic of the shipping label, as mentioned in a separate thread? If so, will email it direct. ? ? |

Hello Curt
Thank you very much for your advice. A test with a different powersupply and a dummyload went fine. After further trying it turned out that the settings for the antenna tuner are very critical. A small misadjustment is sufficient to create the reset as described. So now that I know the cause, I can easily prevent the problem. I Hope also to start in CW ? But I still have to practice a little. 73 PE1FSS Victor |
I'm nearly finished with my latest 40m QCX build, and I thought I'd share it.
I smuggled a small parts box home from work and planned on converting it to an entire self-contained station.? The plan is to be able to open the case and have everything necessary to operate as a CW station, or close it back up and operate as a beacon? It's just about the perfect size, being a bit larger than a paperback book. So far I have installed the QCX, lined it with copper adhesive foil for shielding, and made simple Kydex partitions to separate the radio, an internal battery, a paddle, headphones, and a wire winder. My goal is to get the radio, battery, charger, key, headphones, and antenna all in a reasonably ruggedized case suitable to throw into a pack.? I may not be able to fit the key, but I should be able to get an EFHW antennaante a FT50-43 49:1 unun in the case with the radio and battery. Any suggestions on an economical tiny paddle that could save a bit more room?? :D |

John,
All I did for that was measure very carefully,? and I cut the display rectangle with a dremel tool with very light pressure? as those cutting disks are rather flimsy...i did anchor my knuckles as I held it to help? keep it steady. Then once cut, I used a file for the final fit & de-buring. The front panel is 16ga steel. Not to thick,? but far more difficult to work with than aluminium. Steve Raas? N2JDQ? |

Thanks Jack & Lex,
For the moment, no battery... but the plan is 1 or 2 Lipfo packs inside...it will all depend on what I can get to fit. For now, I'm just running it with a small astron supply with the voltage ramped up to 14.6 vdc. Steve Raas? N2JDQ? |

Nice paint job. I see you live in my neck of the woods, so I am very familiar with the waiting game for better painting conditions ;) I have a couple of things that need to be painted, but I am still waiting.

Thank you for your suggestions. I had indeed just replaced my powersupply. now I use an adjustable Farnell powersuupply that can deliver up to 30 volts 1 amp. Should be enough anyway.
But I'm going to investigate this tonight. I will do a test with the powersupply that I used before and replace the antenna with a dummy load. Victor |
