Re: Stock QCX-17 running a CW beacon on 12m again today

If your transmitter output stage is generating a few Watts but you are seeing only 200mW output after a LPF designed for a lower cutoff, then you should be asking yourself " Where is that surplus power going?" The answer I suspect is as heat in the output transistors. If you need to operate at a different frequency than the original design, then re-configure the LPF.

Re: FT8 for U3?

Hi Hans,
did you ever formally release this version?

Re: Easy lithium battery for QCX

?KE0GYC,

That battery would not be good for QSX (10W transmitter), the battery protection would likely
kick in at RF peaks and shut it down.? Also full charge its 12.8V but average voltage during discharge
is 11.4 and that would limit power out and have other issues.

The ideal lithium pack for QSX would likely be a LiFePo4? 2P4S in the 4000 to 12000 mAh range with
a full charge voltage of 14.6V.

It would be good for QCX.? IT would be a ok pack for radios like FT817 though 2200mah is not much?
run time.

That pack is for the RC transmitter so the max current is much lower than a battery for cars or planes.

Yes, those R/C battery packs are very useful and readily available at your local Hobby Store along with the chargers.

Re: Kit shipping

I've done a fair amount of international ordering, and I do see it vary widely from country to country. This is my first time with a shipment from Turkey, and I'd put them on the slower end of the scale, last update I show is on 4-8 where the origin post is preparing to dispatch the mail piece. Experience has been that its possibly already left Turkey, next update will be on the US side when received.

In contrast, i just placed an order with a Swedish supplier, standard post, and 2 days later, it is already in the US.

I think its a high compliment to Hans and his products that we're all waiting at the front door hoping today is the day the postman brings us our goodies, lol.

Re: Kit shipping

I have explained this on and

The shipments leave Turkey and the last event in the tracking indicates that it left Istanbul.?

Thereafter, in most cases there are no further tracking events until the package clears customs in the destination country. The amount of time required for that can be very variable. Depending mostly on the workload of customs.?

DHL, TNT, FedEx etc would indeed cost upwards of 50 euros ($60) and I cannot see that it can be worthwhile paying that amount of shipping, for kits which generally cost less than this.?

John,

That dummy load - where did the design come from? I presume the leds
give a rough indication of power?

I'd be interested in the schematic &/or source.

Re: Easy lithium battery for QCX

Sorry, I meant to say QSX, so it should be suitable for either of the QRPLABS offerings.

Re: Easy lithium battery for QCX

That should be within the realm of QCX power though, right?? A 10W SSB rig should draw under 3A average by a pretty good margin.

Hey, John, N3AAZ,
Many thanks for the hint about the "variable (tunable)" audio filter.
I've been wanting to improve on my 7-band QCX rig's performance while receiving, for example, CHU on USB on its three freqs, as well as AM SWBC, JS8, FT8 etc on all my QCX-17's freqs !

Re: 5 watt PA on 630m

Vernon,

I have run the PA Amp on 630 M for over a year on WSPR and it is about 5 watts- except for last 30 days as I'm testing an MF Solutions transverter.??

I did mount the amp in the U3S case with a small fan inside monitoring the heat sink temperature for a few weeks.

It works quite?well!??

Hey there, Nigel.
Not having a stock QCX-30, I can't speak to its performance on other bands.
But, as for my stock QCX-17, I have enjoyed more QSOs with it on 30m than on any other band...would love to QSO ZS6RN on 30m !
I was informed yesterday by Alan, G1FXB of the 6-band QCX rig by Andreas, DM5MU, found near the bottom of the page at:
?
Very interesting rig !
