I'm very happy to hear from you. Well OK I misunderstood that PIN #2 outputs AC not DC. I connect the Blue LED with 2.2k-ohm resister into PIN #2. There has no problem until now and it seems working. I agree with your opinion because I'm experimenter not a professional. hi I still QRV every weekend but no grabber catch my 150mW signal. I will continue to QRV on 30m in the weekend. 73,ja9mat hidehiko. On the other hand, I always think if something works, then it is often best not to interfere with it! Thanks for sharing your fine photos with us! Note that the chip is actually from the AVR family of microcontrollers produced by manufacturer Atmel. Not a PIC from Microchip. Similar functionality, but a different family from a different manufacturer! Another point that I wanted to mention, just from a theoretical basis for your interest: What you say is a 2.5V-DC voltage on pin 2, is not actually DC. It is a 700Hz squarewave AC tone which can be used as a "sidetone". Squarewave with a 50% duty cycle and 5V amplitude. So when you put a voltmeter on there, you would probably see 2.5V indicated. If you connect a blue LED directly to this pin then probably you are running the LED out of its specification. The peak current in the LED is probably higher than it wants, but limited by the ability of the AVR output pin to source it. It's not an ideal situation, though it will light the LED and probably nothing will be too badly abused, so it should not fail. But it would be more theoretically correct to drive the LED on pin 3, via a suitable resistor (e.g. something like 150, or 220 ohms etc). On the other hand, I always think if something works, then it is often best not to interfere with it! Many sayings and proverbs mention this! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"; "Let sleeping dogs lie" etc. 73 Hans G0UPL --- In QRPLabs@..., "Hide" <qrper72@...> wrote:

QRSS 80 meters - Europe - take a Look
"Ken Evans"
I am QRV on 3500.850. Vern has spotted me in Nova Scotia and SV1BKE's
carrier appears to be above me. So as those of you in Europe wake up, give a look for me and see if we are "crossing the pond". Ken Evans, W4DU QRP ARCI 696, GQRP 5918, FP 295, NOGA, ARRL Life |
QRV 80 meters
"Ken Evans"
I finished the 80 meter beacon last weekend and had a few problems. I first
destroyed a few 2N7000s by turning R8 fully counter clockwise instead of clockwise - read the directions!! Then I could not get the oscillator above 3500.540. I changed turns on L1 several times and finally ended shorting it but could not get above 3500.60. I then changed C9 from a 5 - 25 pf to a 3 to 16 pf. Now I can go up to 3500.860. I think the issue is a finicky xtal. Let me know when you "see me". I currently have my 70 mw beacon on 3500.850 (as close to mid band as I can adjust) Ken Evans, W4DU QRP ARCI 696, GQRP 5918, FP 295, NOGA, ARRL Life |

What I am looking for is a Power Meter , for QRP , QRPp .
A 2 watt and a 1 watt full scale reading would be the ultimate meter , although displaying a little more power would certainly not be a deal breaker . Homebrew is fine too . Don't really need to have an SWR function . The difficult part is I would like for it to operate accurately in the low MF range ( 160 meters , 600 meters ) and also the LF range ( 1750 meters ) . I currently use a clamp on RF probe that works just fine , but it would be nice to have a meter that I can use on the bench , or leave in the line all of the time . ANY design suggestions , or kit devices would be greatly appreciated . THANK YOU , I am SURE someone on this great group , can help me come up with something . Additional info. as follows; Transmit monitor Blue LED is connected to the PIN #2 of the PIC chip. There appears about 2.5V-DC when transmitting. ja9mat Hidehiko. --- In QRPLabs@..., "Hide" <qrper72@...> wrote:

Hi members,
I've finished to build yesterday. I also put some photos in "JA9MAT" photo folder. My Modification are follows addition; 1)The PIEZO monitor speaker 2)The transmittig Blue LED 3)The BCD Switch to change the 8-modes 4)The small heatsink on 2N7000 with EPOXY bonding I use small AC/DC regulator 5V/1A and the Po=150mW without over heating the final-2N7000. I QRV every weekend and hope to catch my weak signal. Thanks for nice QRSS project! 73, ja9mat Hidehiko. |

Send me an e-mail once you are ok. I have a beacon that I try to run every night between 1500z (when I go to bed) and 0000z. My signal has been received by ZL2IK already and when I was doing some tests by VK2DI, but now his grabber is offline most of the time. I cannot run the grabber all the time because the computer is also used by other people, but at night and if there "someone" to receive, no problem. QRSS TX Mod and Japanese QRSS situation
"Hide"
Hi friends,
I've uploaded my mod. of the QRSS TX kit. I added the BCD Switch to select the 8-transmitting mode. It works fine without adding the pull down resisters. Please see the photos into "Photos -> JA9MAT". BTW... I use the small 5V-DC Switching Power Module and got about 200mW at peak but now down to 100mW.A 2N700 has a little hot but seems no problem for 24hours work. My antenna is G5RV tuned to 30m band with tuner. I QRV last night but no grabber response to me... A 100mW is so small to be received in Europe and even in Oceania. No JA or Asian station QRV on QRSS mode here so it seems difficult to confirm my signal.I must confirm my signal by myself. I'm envious with European QRSS staions. So many QRSS signals appears into the grabber display. I wish if I were you. hi. I have another QRSS transmitter it's out power is 1.5W and also 5W with adding the IRF510 linear amplifier. But it's not suitable for continuous carrier transmission. It used for QRSS3,6 and DFCW mode. Thanks for nice kit supply,73. ja9mat Hidehiko. |

Thanks for the references you gave. I measure my DC consumption and it is around 137mA at 5,5V with 100mW RF out. That confirm my 2N7000 could draw more than expected and why it is hotter than I'd like it to be... 73, Yan. --- In QRPLabs@..., "g4ilo" <julian.g4ilo@...> wrote:

Re: Supply current question

Mine draws 65 - 70mA at 5V for 50mW out. When I increased the power to just below 100mW (which was the peak in my case) it increased to 120mA. Increasing the bias voltage beyond that it was more current for less power out. I settled for 50mW output to get better battery life.

Yes I checked R6 already and it is 6k8. R8 is closer to 1,8K than the stated 2,2k in the schematic. The closer potentiometer I have in my spare box is 5k. I tried to had 1k to R6 but without success. Then I realised that potentiometer is turned all the way down to 0V. I tried to disconnect R6 and as expected no change. Measure rectified voltage with my RF probe is around 3V and the FET is getting hot... Perhaps my probe is not accurate but I am sure the power does not exceed 200mW since it is the lowest power I can measure with my Wattmeter and the needle is not moving at all. Thanks for your help. 73, Yan -XV4TUJ. --- In QRPLabs@..., Stephen Farthing <squirrox@...> wrote:

开云体育Hans...& othersThese QRSS beacons (and the grabbers) seem to be popping up on many bands and on many frequencies.? This seems to suggest that we each need QRSS Beacon transmitters for all bands, and for many frequencies. That then suggests that the Keyer chip could be installed in a separate chassis and used as a controller for any, or all, of several different QRSS transmitters.
