Re: #qmx SSB Firmware beta 1_01_005 release

Mine doesn't work with .005. The serial port is not recognized. Win11.
Back to .003, everything's fine. |
#qmx SSB Firmware beta 1_01_006 release
#qmx
Hi all I updated the?SSB?beta?testing webpage of the brave, here:??and released?firmware?version?1_01_006 to it.? As discussed in the other?thread... I believe I fixed the problem with USB not working on Windows machines; I tested it on my PC with its out-of-date Win10 which I have not logged into for several YEARS. It worked on USB Serial Ports = 1 and USB Serial Ports = 2 (also with USB sound card appearing) but not on USB Serial Ports = 3. When I boot my PC into Linux as normal, all three options work perfectly. See attached.? Feedback awaited... and again my apologies for the error in 1_01_005. Just a single character typo which apparently Linux didn't mind but Windows did? ?:-/? ? 73 Hans G0UPL |

The fix you just made should remedy that, so maybe my machine won't have the problem with 3 ports like yours. |

You mnade me do it. Booted my W11 machine. Less than 1 minute to log in screen. Probably 90 seconds until I was typing this email.

For reasons best known only to itself, Win 10 didn't do any patching even though it's been years since I used it. And it even seemed to boot in only about 7 minutes which is much faster than I recall. Though still woefully slower than the 10
seconds it takes the same machine to boot into Linux.?
I'm pleased to report that setting USB Serial ports to both 1 and 2 both worked, with both serial and sound. TeraTerm is apparently what's on the desktop and I could connect to both ports with no difficulty, and sound too.?
Setting USB Serial ports to 3 did not work (as we know from 1_01_004).?
So all: please standby while I prepare and upload a .QMX file with high confidence, and my apologies for not thinking of booting my computer into Win10 until now and wasting your time on it.?

Hi Stan
Then I expect that should also be the case in 1_01_005. My Win10 is very old, remember. In Linux I see the three ports and Audio no problem (and USB Flash drive, if I enable that in the firmware).? 73 Hans G0UPL |

I used USBTreeView to look at the QMX USB port with 004 and 005 installed. In case it might be of use, I attached the output as two files, one for 004 and one for 005.

Hi Ludwig
I agree, something must be amiss. But somehow Linux is making sense of it and Windows isn't! Don't worry, I'll find it!
George, QMX is already a powered hub, in effect. Cascading hubs would add more variables to a mix which already has enough variables!

Hi Matti
No. Well yes... But with the COM ports = 1 setting it is supposed to replicate the precious situation.? Anyway I found a 1 character typo, in the length of the USB descriptor, which could be the problem. Weird that Linux tolerates it. Anyway now I'm trying to boot into Windows 10. I still have the old 1TB hard disk attached to my computer though it's some years now since I booted into Windows. So I'll try and test it now .. 73 Hans G0UPL |

Hi Tony
A problem is that everyone's machine will be slightly different. When I get the next beta out and it works on Windows I'd be grateful if you could run 30m on its own, and take a screenshot both when it is running (and DAC is say, a few hundred); and when it is completed.? 73 Hans G0UPL |

Well, for fun, I reinstalled 005 and ran the calibration from the front panel. Phase works better but I still have one (30 Meters) that does not complete. I went back to 004 so that I could look at the result curves. I'm not sure if you did anything with SYNC
but some of those changed as well. I will have to try manually rerunning some of them.

Could it be that in Windows the data and command endpoints must be allocated pairwise? Or Windows requires that command endpoints must exist even if not used.

¡°Use original IC¡± usually means that IC2 lost its EEPROM file. You may have to get a new chip to fix it. Sorry¡ Ron On Fri, Apr 25, 2025 at 09:59 Jeremy Ollerenshaw via <ollerenj=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: QMX and digital modes with Win 8 and Win 10
Miguel, thanks for the tip on using Voicemeeter to fix the USB volume.
For some reason the VARA-HF modem software does not put full-scale audio into the QMX USB sound device (at least in Windows).
Some posters have recently mentioned using a 'speakerphone' setting in the VARA soundcard settings to boost the volume, but my VARA-HF doesn't seem to have such a setting, and I have the latest. |
Re: #QMX+ et
#fldigi
First, make sure the PTT is working.
?- put qmx in digi mode, on vfo A
?- press the flrig PTT button, and see if a dot appears under the A while PTT is on
?- that means PTT is working
?- if not working, check the flrig config - PTT generic, and make sure "PTT on CAT Serial Port" is set to BOTH, with RTS and DTR OFF.
?
Then make sure transmit audio level from PC is sufficient to drive the QMX:
?- set windows volume setting for the QMX playback device to 100%
?- in the FLdigi main window, bottom status border, near the right-hand-side, there is a "tx level attenuator" setting which by default is set to some number other than zero.? Set it fully up to 0.
?- in the FLdigi main window, top right, turn off both RxID and TxID.? Press 'Tune' there (with dummy load or matched antenna attached to QMX).? With that 'Tune' on, you should see first two dots appear under the A in the QMX display, then it should change to a line.? Two dots mean PTT worked and audio is being received by QMX, the line means that the audio is strong enough for digi mode transmit, and it should be transmitting full power.
?
If you plan to run RTTY, make one more FLdigi setting change: Config -> Modem -> TTY -> Tx:? uncheck the "Shaped Tx" button, otherwise RTTY Tx will not work (external shaping interferes with QMX internal shaping).
?
Now it should all work in digi mode for FSK types.? And you can also put it in SSB mode, and it will work on the other types.? But do the setup in digi mode, because it is easier to see that things are set up properly.? Digi mode is still preferred (will give better performance) for all single-tone-at-a-time modes (RTTY, MFSK*, etc), but SSB mode is required for all phase-shifting (PSK) or multitone types. |
