Re: Manual tuner selection?

The Four State QRP Group tuner (by David Cripe NM0S) works very well when I need it.
YES, it is a kit, and YES, I'm old too. Yet it was a very easy build.

Re: QMX and digital modes with Win 8 and Win 10

I think it's a good recommendation.
The new release 1_01_004 works perfectly for me on Windows 11 Pro.
The USB audio is very limited. I fix this with the "Voice-Meter" program, which allows me to increase the USB volume by approximately 5 to 10 dB.
Thanks?

QMX and digital modes with Win 8 and Win 10

Hello! Just wanted to describe the situation with my QMX. I've installed the latest beta 04.
?1. Win 10 laptop has found three COM ports without problem. WJST-X and JS8-Call work fine. WinLink/VARA works OK except one problem: during TX QMX receive very low audio signal via USB cable. So it doesn't transmit any material signal. That is why I have to use speakerphone in VARA soundcard settings for output signal instead. Then everything is OK.?
2. Win 8 tablet with 8" screen. Had to install STM driver and manually "show" to the system where to find drivers for all three COM ports and all three QMX devices that the system saw at the beginning. After that it started to see three new COM ports and one audio device named QMX. Exactly as it is with Win 10 laptop. So I was sure that now everything should be OK. BUT it is not. WJST-X and JS8-Call doesn't work. No CAT control. In spite of the fact that all settings are exactly the same as for Win 10. WinLink/Vara works but with slightly different settings than Win 10 laptop. And it has the same problem with very low audio signal via USB cable. So I use speakerphone in VARA soundcard settings for output signal as well. But at least WinLink works...
Hans, is it possible to make some audio input signal (through USB cable) regulation in menu? In future firmware updates? Or may be you can reproduce this problem with input signal strength and find the solution?
Thanks!

Re: Manual tuner selection?

I use the same LDG817. I use swr tune mode on my QMX+, and push and hold the tune button on the LDG until the red light goes out, then release. (I.e. a full tune from scratch every time). Works fine.

Re: QCX-mini LCD top row is blocks, bottom row is blank

So this indicates the LCD is receiving nothing at start up
?
Unsoldered /shorted ?connections, ?CPU absent, CPU wrong way round, pins folded underneath etc are all worth checking?

Have you read the troubleshooting guide on the units webpages ??

I've put a bolt on battery box and speaker amplifier on the QMX.? It screws on to the extrusion where the end plate was.

Re: Circuit description around PS and its supply¡

So I have had a bit of a dig around; Q507 is fine, as is Q508 so it looks like the finals failed due to being over-stressed by a calibration cycle...why this should occur I am not clear but hopefully I should be back up and running when I have replaced the finals; they are on the way to me.

QCX-mini LCD top row is blocks, bottom row is blank

Hi, I just completed a build of the QCX-mini. When powering the device with either 7.5V or 12V battery I get ?LCD top row is blocks, bottom row is blank and nothing else. I have checked throughout for solder bridges and found none, I also checked for continuity with digital multi meter and found the IC2 (ATmega328P) to be connected ok with the ic socket and also with the board sockets with no bent pins and proper intal alingment. Also continuity is fine for the LCD. IC2 has clock on pin 10 of 4MHz (measured with logic probe), IC2 also has voltages on pins 2,3,4 and 5. I'm not sure how to fully test IC2 to see if all is good or what else I should look for in the circuit to spot the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I have good luck with my ZM-2 ATU.

Google EMTECH... they come as a kit or pre-built.

QMX SSB : Does a Baofeng Micro works ok ?

Hi, I tried to use a standard Baofeng micro , the one with a small loudspeaker inside that is not usable with QMX.
I have done the easy mods to make possible using this mike with the QMX. No a big issue ...
Tried also the Microphone Test tool in the QMX sw, and the mike seems ok using only 40 db for gain.
BUT, if I listen with another radio the modulation is very bad .. !! Possibly the two radio too close ??
Unfortunatly, if I talk ,does not seem to exit any RF or just a little bit, from the QMX ( I have a swr/wattmeter in line..).
In CW all is ok, in SSB Baofeng micro seems no good. Have you tried the Baofeng Micro ? I guess every body owns one of
this mike that why I am asking.?

Re: #qmx SSB Firmware beta 1_01_004 release #qmx

1_01_004 - menu item history fix would be very helpful
?
With the addition of new items under 'Hardware tests' in the menu, we can now no longer just click twice on the menu button to get to the Tune SWR menu (after using it once).? The 'Hardware tests' selection is remembered, but not the next level down in the menu.? So now it will always go to 'AF filter sweep' (not very often used), and you have to turn the knob to get to 'Tune SWR'.? It would be very nice for QMX to remember the last function used at least one more level down in the menu tree.
?
Similar behavior happens for selecting a CW filter bandwidth - now that the settings are grouped under the new 'CW' section, it does not remember that the last setting I chose was 'CW passband', making it a bit more trouble to change the CW filter.?

Re: Manual tuner selection?

Menu -> Hardware tests -> Tune SWR
from pg 56 of the operations manual:
?
SWR measurement
The SWR measurement tool enables the transmitter at a reduced supply voltage determined by
the operating percentage defined in the Tune % parameter of the Protection menu. This
percentage is displayed for information on the top right of the screen.
The top left shows the operating frequency for the SWR measurement, which is the center
frequency of the band.
The band name is displayed in the bottom left, and SWR measurement in the bottom right. The
SWR measurement is updated ten times per second.
Controls:
? Use the left rotary encoder to change the band.
? Use the right rotary encoder to change the frequency.
? Start the SWR measurement by pressing the left push button (Keyer/RIT/Menu). The SWR
will continue to be displayed until the SWR measurement tool is closed, or the left push
button is pressed again, or the rotary encoder is turned to change the band, or a 60 second
timeout expires.
? Use the right push button to exit the SWR measurement tool.

How do you get to Tune/SWR mode? I don't find it in the manual.
