Another vote for 3 x 18650 cells. They're perfect for the job. I must admit to being a bit less cautious than the others regarding final charge voltage. When the cells are straight out of the charger, the pack sits at about 12.6V. The radio is safe to power up at that voltage in RX. After a few blasts of the QMX in SWR tuning mode, the voltage soon drops a little and is safe to operate. You can buy small plastic cases for 3 x 18650 cells from Scamazon or AliExpress etc. to which you can fit your connector of choice. I use XT-60 connectors on everything.

I also have a couple of 3000mAh Lipo packs which work well with the radio. They're cheap and reliable but are a bit easier to damage than the 18650's.?

you may be right: for RX I just measured 122.35mA on my 9V Midband QMX in CW-Mode and 122.62mA in Digi-Mode.

No USB/Cat was attached, no paddle, etc., only a linear PSU and a dummy load.

I have managed to complete the update but had to short the two pins as described in the operating manual. It didn't re-boot but powering down and then on again I was pleased to see it start as normal.

However, the PC can't see the QMX as an audio device now, which it could before so I can't run digital modes.?

If I'm feeling brave later I might try loading an earlier firmware, such as 024, and see if that makes any difference.

I had the same results some time ago. The issue seems to be caused by the Android operating system trying to create various files and folders on the QMX drive which it doesn't take kindly to. In my case, I had to use the wire jumper method to put the radio back into update mode and then update with my PC.?

You can safely use a serial terminal app on the Android device to access the config and diagnostics on the radio. I use an app called "Another term" which works very well.

I originaly did the same with my macbok pro, but the ctrl+Q does'nt work for me (and cmd+Q stop the terminal).
So I use putty.

I have a DIY power bank made with 3 x 18650 cells I use on SOTA. ?I charge it to 12V and not more. ?After about an hour long session it only drops the voltage to 11.5V.

Next, I'm planning to move the cells inside the QMX+. ?Less to worry about missing the cable or the battery from the bag. I already have a dev board and it seem to fit easily.?

Did not expect to be getting an ATNO DX on 3 Watts on 20 meters.

Just tried PTT test in diagnostics and get the same bias current fluctuation.

I've tried various firmware versions - now on 0.26

I would like to branch into digital. Does anyone know if there is a "digital comms for dummies" or equivalent book that can explain it from the ground up to get started?

I have had the big one and the mini for a couple of years and luv-em'.

Thing is, the audio on the mini is way better than its big brother. I know I can just use the mini, but I like to use them all. So, if someone can point me in the right direction to start sorting it out, I would be much obliged.

Has anyone tried replacing the 3 BS170s with a single IR510? I have a uSDX using one that has been absolutely bulletproof. Maybe it is a unicorn, but it also gives 5 watts on 1Om. JS6TMW

What's a good battery to provide 12 V to a QMX or QDX for SOTA operation? I have a battery that I use for Field Day and other ops, but it weighs something like 30 lbs, and I don't think I want to carry it up a mountain on my back. It would have to power a QMX or QDX for a few hours to make it worth the trouble.

I ran into a similar issue of not restarting after upgrade to _026.

It happened on a QMX and QMX+. They both stayed in USB drive mode showing both the _025 and _026 files. Could not turn either one of them on/off by pressing the Vol knob. I removed power cable and powered back on. Each of them came up on rev 26 and functioned normally.

To test, I back-rev'ed the QMX to _025 and re-installed _026 and this time it worked as normal. Dragged the file into the QMX USB drive and it copied over and it rebooted to rev 26 automatically.

I updated as usual from a PC but the QMX wouldn't switch back on. Simple solution for me: remove the power-source, let it sit a few seconds, power on.
