Hans,?
Ahh, the joys of beta testing! A long time ago, I wrote a program with many interacting subroutines. I tested it thoroughly and knew it was perfect. So I gave it to the XYL to use. She had it locked up in less than a minute! A perfectly reasonable sequence for her had never occurred to me!?
Enjoy your time with the little lab tech!

Re: Not recognised on MAC
What version of the QMX do you have? There is an issue with QMX Rev 2 boards which wasn't fixed until 2024. Rather than using a USB-C to USB-C cable it's easily fixed by using a USB-C to USB cable then one of Apple's USB to USB-C adaptors. There is also a hardware fix available at

Hi Lex I suspect the problem with the upgrade to 024 happens if you had selected a CW filter in 023 that was higher than the 8th in the list. Then I think under the new filter interpretation in 024, that causes the code to go off into memory somewhere outside of where it should be... . I think if you select filter "None" for example, then do the upgrade to 024, everything will work fine.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Tue, Aug 6, 2024, 18:13 Lex PH2LB via <lex=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Encoder fix that worked for me
#qmx
#rotaryencoder
Good result there Greg. That'll temporarily clear any gunk that may have been obstructing the internal contacts of the encoder. With luck, they'll stay clear but in my experience encoder issues do tend to return.

I posted a reasonably effective fix for glitchy encoders as a recent topic although it does rely on the solder connections being correct in the first place.

It's a great wee radio when it's all working ??

Michigan QRP Club Zoom Chat Report for 8/01/24
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe had ten folks show up for the 1 August Michigan QRP Zoom chat. The topic was favorite antennas. WK8S Pete W3ETE Ernie AB8DF Ed AE7YD Yvon M0SGV Stuart TA1MHS Muhsin K8DDV Jim WA7GIL Ron N8SBE Dave Casey KC9IH Antennas: Pete started things off. He showed his ground mounted vertical. Ron uses a diamond shaped loop for in the field. At home he has a Hex beam and doublet. Stuart has a linked dipole in an inverted V configuration. His club used a kite antenna on a trip to a small island off the coast.? Ernie has a Hextenna? . He also got a new kit a Dually - HF End Fed Antenna Build Kit for Ham Radio by K4QCD that he has not gotten to play with yet. Yvon described his potable antenna. Dave has an Eagle One antenna and showed pictures from the web site. He also has a Super Antenna vertical. He showed all the pieces including the coil, whip, and connecting rods. Casey talked about his verticals that he has used in the past.? Other topics we talked about were: Pete got a new QRP rig. Stuart picked up a K1 last weekend at a swap. Crummy band conditions. QMX+ 9 volt or 12 volt. Next weeks topic is Field Logging. Please join us Thursday (and every Thursday) at 4PM Eastern for the Michigan QRP Club weekly QRP Chat where the main topics will be QRP and other ham interests. It's fun, it's easy, and it's free. You only need a computer, a smart phone, or a tablet that can connect to the Internet. OR if you can't be close to any of those you can join by audio with any standard phone. Just follow the directions below. No software needs be loaded or installed. Anyone can join and non members are welcome. Details are here: Ed AB8DF |
Hi Greg ?
(RTFM matter)... you need to enable the filters you want to use, in the "Choose filters" screen - which is also? available in the LCD menu.? ?
No... I will fix it 73 Hans G0UPL |
I got my QMX back to working state again by taking these steps :
?
Everything seems to be OK again.
?
I remembered that played with the configuration of my QMX to try out different filter settings which I didn't do with my QMX+ (yet).

What an AWESOME update, thank you so much for this.
?
Small (what I think is a) bug. After switching on the QMX, every character on the CW decoder line shows a copy of the S-meter. They scroll off the screen as characters are decoded so not really a problem. Actually looks kinda cool but probably wasn't intended. |
Hello Gregg, Lex ?
That's a very interesting problem. Well, interesting to me. I suspect it may be a bit worrying for you right now.? During this step Initializing Audio System, the code is setting up the DSP filtering and the generalized Goertzel filter. I suspect that if your EEPROM happens to hold some settings data which is not consistent with the permitted filter and second filter mappings, the code could go off on a frolic of its own. For ever. I can't find it quite yet but I believe this is what must have happened. As soon as you could boot up into the settings, you'd be able to edit the CW filter selection but you can't get that far, because it can't get through the initialization.? And for me during testing, I could never see this problem because my settings are correct and sensible... the problem could only come about depending on what data happens to be in your EEPROM. So that could be why the upgrade has worked for other people but for you, appears? to cause this initialization problem.? I think the solution will be for me to put some boundary constraints around the data loaded from EEPROM before the intialization?occurs, thereby preventing it (the code) from wandering?off into unknown and undefined territories. Then I will make this a version 1_00_025, and you can install that. Most likely you will have to do the force-update technique.? I can do this in a few hours... right now it is? 5:49pm local time, the two older lab techs have gone to volley ball, tennis, football but the littlest one will be in MY charge 11 minutes from now, whereupon I shall feed him, take him to the park, maybe swim with him, whatever he wants, put him to bed, then come back to the lab and make the code changes.? For now it would be prudent for others to WAIT.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Hi Ian ?
Yes, I just checked this, and I agree. There's a new bug that was introduced in 1_00_021 and persists. I'll fix it!? 73 Hans G0UPL |

Hi ?
No bug. It's a feature as described in the release notes. It is now a configuration, in the new VFO menu. You can to choose, which tune rates are used in your push-tune-knob cycle. These settings are also available on the LCD too. Set up to have the previous cycle (1kHz, 500Hz, 100Hz, 10Hz) would be like the attached screenshot. If you had a fresh QMX, or after a factory reset, this is how it would?be, by default. But in your case, just go in and edit the tune rate mask in this new VFO / VFO tune rates sub-menu screen.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
