Hi George ?
Which issue are you referring to? It isn't clear from the messages, who you are replying to...?? If the question is about the issue with 1_00_022, SWR and GPS tools didn't run on the QMX (though were OK on the terminal login)... this affects QMX and QMX+. Almost always, everything that affects QMX will affect QMX+ because they are 98% the same. Anyway I fixed it very quickly in 1_00_023.? Or is it a different issue?? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Re: HAKKO 301 desoldering tool
Try getting?a dead PC and experiment on the board.? That's what I do. 73? Jim N6OTQ On Wed, Jul 31, 2024 at 11:33?AM George Korper via <georgekorper=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: QMX RIT Issue
Hi Jim I am not sure if functionality has changed or if your recollection is entirely correct, or some combination of both. Certainly RIT never moved in 50Hz steps. 1k, 500Hz, 100Hz and 10Hz. But there were bugs with the implementation and there are still things that need to be improved. What it did before, and what it does now, could be examined by going back to a previous firmware version.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Jul 31, 2024 at 9:10?PM Jim Bennett / K7TXA via <w6jhb=[email protected]> wrote:

It is best to measure the U3S oscillator, is it TCXO? If it is it should not be far out. If is not then somewhere in the manual is an explanation of the configuration parameters. Default calibration can take a long time. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |

Hello David I suggest checking this first: 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Jul 31, 2024, 21:25 Drpro via <derogersnashville=[email protected]> wrote:

Qbit biasing (off topic)
I found an app note on biasing of quantum Qubits.? This reads much like
some of our discussion of QRP-Labs products.? The smaller things get,
the more the issues stay the same.

Ultimate3/3S QRSS/WSPR frequency off
recently completed a U3s WSPR kit.? Included in my build was the LPF kit, QLG1 GPS kit and the enclosure.
?
All seems to be working, GPS locks in sets time, location, etc.? I currently have it set to 14.097.000 mhz.? The problem is the actual operating frequency is 13.139 mhz.? This frequency is observed on two different spectrum analyzers.??
?
Any thoughts as to the problem?
Tnx

QMX RIT Issue
I'm on firmware xxx.23 on my mid band QMX, but also noticed this on xxx.20 - When I bring up the RIT display, it shows +0.000. I can toggle between the +0, the "." and the leftmost of the three zeros. Turning the TUNE control changes the RIT in either 1 Khz, 500 KHz, or 100KHz steps. I'm pretty sure that at one point I was able to change the tuning steps by 50 KHz. Can no longer do that.
?
And, an even more annoying problem is that I can no longer leave the RIT set at a particular setting and return to the main frequency display. The only thing I can do is to press the right button, which then cancels my RIT completely. While in RIT mode, the left button no longer functions at all. I used to be able to set RIT, then double click the left button - this kept RIT in place but returned me to the main frequency control.
?
Is there something messed up with my QMX, or did I miss something in the list of recent changes?

Hi Joe Not the way it works... QMX only pretends to be a USB flash drive. It's extremely minimal. Bootloader, USB stack, FAT16 file system, 256-bit encryption, I2C EEPROM and the Flash programming logic all fit inside 16K. The only thing it can do is accept a new firmware file you copy in, decrypt it and Install it in application Flash memory. (Likewise for EEPROM , and in reverse for copying out). It can't contain multiple versions for the firmware. So you just copy in the new firmware file and it'll automatically delete the old firmware and write in the new one.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Jul 31, 2024, 20:30 Joe AI5DD via <josefius=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: HAKKO 301 desoldering tool
I would think that a hot air/nozzle tool would be better.

Start around 160-170 C¡ã (likely low temp lead-free solder is used) with a very low air flow to protect any nearby SMD components. Perhaps even make up some heat shields out of bits of aluminium foil for nearby components. I did read an interesting idea on the group here about threading a fine wire under/behind the pins to help lift the chip up from the PCB. I suspect others with more experience will post some good suggestions too. Greg.?
