Re: QCX mini with straight key

I also take from this single poster, that no one else has had this experience? If so I can get around it by using a paddle, I can also try using a bug.

Re: Another QMX+ got onto the air + Low Tx Output

I've now sorted the power problem on 6m. It appears that the inductors L519 & L520 are super sensitive to turns spacing, tweaking those improved the O/P power, but the main improvement came when I removed a turn from both coils. I now have over 3W on all bands...

Hope this will help anybody else with a similar problem.

I'll make a video later when I get time.

Re: QCX mini with straight key

Is it possible that is the sidetone sounding a little soft?? Maybe you could record a little of the sound and post it so we could get a better idea.

Thanks for your explanation.
I'll buy you another coffee - hope you can get an iced coffee during the summer.

Re: QMX Carry Case

I am also a fan of the 1050 case.

Additionally, I have this 3D printed cover ( Thingiverse)? to protect the screen and controls.? That is severs as a stand is quite the bonus.

Re: QMX (1_00_020) SWR - Issue?

If this were me I would first completely calibrate the VNA for a bandwidth of 13.8 MHz to 14.5Mhz to zoom in on the 20m band, so that you can accurately read the Return Loss across this narrow frequency band. A good reading is below -20dB and -25dB is better.

Once you know absolutely that the antenna is suitable at your operating frequency, which might be 14.074MHz, with lower than -20dB return loss, then you can start checking other possibilities, like flakey cable.

My QMX was delivered the other day but I have not been having a very good time with it so far. I am really hoping it is because I am just dumb!

It came shipped with the 1_00_019 firmware. I put 11.7v into it and when I press the CW paddle all I get is a 'S' next to the frequency. After upgrading to 1_00_020 and reading the manual it seems that this is due to high SWR (which is set in the configuration to not Tx above 3)

I have a little antenna (not great sure) but when I measure the SWR on my nanoVNA it shows about 1.2 on thye 20m band but when I move the antenna over to the QMX the swr is read at almost 5 resulting in nothing being transmitted. .

I have even tried connecting a putty terminal to the QMX and then sweeping the SWR (and let me tell you this is not always a simple exercise - the sweep often hangs at 75% and then you can only reboot the QMX and reconnect)

What I see on the terminal when it does work is the following:

<20240712_160702.jpg>

Looks like a good dip at I am guessing 14Mhz

One last thing I have tried is to look at the terminal "Hardware Tests" as you can see in Hans'

<HansHardwareTest.png>

Hans Hardware Test (After he has pressed the "T" key)

When I press the "T" key to tune Hans gets Power and SWR readings however I my Voltage goes to 9.8V (in Red) and 0.0W power with no SWR as you can see below:

My Hardware Test (After he has pressed the "T" key)

Sadly I have lost my Dummy Load so I cannot test it into that.

But ... Why is it so different from my NanoVNA? I am reluctant to turn off the Protection however I am not sure what else to do at this point. Any Ideas?

Re: Info QCX mini

I like this Anker speaker too.
Battery lasts very well, sounds good with QMX.
Also sounds good with music, with good Bluetooth range.

Re: #qmx IQ Sweep ? #qmx

Hi Chris

Software.?

I don't think they're flattened. It's a limitation of my ASCII art, I think that's all. Everything on the terminal has to take place within the constraints that there are 25 rows and 80 columns, and only ASCII characters can be displayed. I had to write code to convert an array of measurement results to a displayed graph on this limited ASCII canvas. The resolution is highly limited compared to what you're able to do on say, a 1280 x 1024 pixel conputer monitor. The limited resolution leads to compromises but still results as you know, in a very useful set of diagnosis and adjustment tools.

Hans,

Thanks for the CAT fixes! Works great now with DXLabs Commander!!

Re: QMX+ on Fire

Problem resolved! Happy again. There was a short on the 3.3V Buck converter, between D102 and Q107. D102 was soldered not precise on track and made contact with Q107. Had to replace the buck converter.

Re: #qmx IQ Sweep ? #qmx

Hi Chris

How do you mean, the "saturation of peaks"??

To me that sweep looks normal, healthy.

It seems spongy like it's forcing the dit and dah spacing if that makes sense.

Re: QCX mini with straight key

I'm not sure what you mean. There is a setting in the keyer menu for straight key. The cadence is established by the movement of your wrist and finger.

QCX mini with straight key

I tried using my Navy Flame Proof key with a QCX-Mini last night and noticed that it was keeping the cadence slow, I don't know how to describe it, but when I tried to key fast it felt slow. Is there a good setup for using a straight key? Using a Paddle in IambicB works great. Any tips would be appreciated.

Did you have an antenna connected to your QMX while you were transmitting with another radio ?
No, but there were a few times the SWR protection triggered while tuning a random wire that starts a foot a way or so.

Timmy,

Who cares.
That amp from Diz is rather nice but does not work at all well on 15 or 10M.

So stay on topic and help the gentleman with his QRPL 10W amp.
