QCX 50W Power Amplifier
Hi Hans
?
I am building a 50W PA and long story short I have one of the 1K 1 W resistors missing.
?
I dont need a replacement from QRPlabs at this time. (If this eventuates I will request it as part of my next kit order from you.)?
?
Can you please let me know what type/construction of resistor it is?
?
I can get carbon ones here in NZ, in addition I have a couple spare from a QRPlabs dummy load as well.
?
Best regards
?
Chris

I believe it is to slide under an IC that you are unsoldering so you can lift it off the board.? 73 Don ve3ids? On Sat., Jul. 20, 2024, 12:23 p.m. Eric K7EBR via , <kerfwappie=[email protected]> wrote:

Yihua 959D question
Hello all,?
?
I just purchased my first hot air rework station.? ?It is a Yihua 959D, Amazon Prime Day deal.?
?
It appears to be well made and well thought out.??
It came with a few different size nozzles and a small black plastic handle like thing with a screw and a formed wire thingy.? ?I have no clue what this for.? If anybody can educate me as to what this is and for,? I would appreciate it.
?
Thank you,
Eric? |
Re: QMX+ 2nd serialport
Hi Uwe Both the PTT and AUX will be able to get used as serial ports. And controlled by BASIC scripting. It will do everything you want. But not yet... 73 Hans G0UPL On Sat, Jul 20, 2024, 19:01 Uwe Meier via <ukmeier=[email protected]> wrote:

QMX+ 2nd serialport
Build my QMX+ last month. It works with no problems in CW and digital (WSJT-x).
Now I nedd a second serial port for controlling my Magloop. (automatic Loopcontroller from TF3LJ).
I find not much in the QMX+ manuals to use the PTT-connector as serial port, because some information in the QDX manual.
I think I have to remove Q203, Q204 and R208, R212 and close JP202 and JP204. I hope that is correct to have a 2nd serial connector.
Or is it possible to use the AUX-connector with less afford or is there any other solution? Sorry my english is not my first language.

Re: QMX+ 9v Portable Power Options
I picked up a Inui B42 power bank, a DSD Tech 9v trigger cable and a Soundcore mini speaker on Prime day. I've been running the power bank since Thursday afternoon (36 hours) and only used 20% of it's capacity, mostly on receive. The power bank/trigger cable combination doesn't seem to generate any RFI whatsoever...
I don't seem to be able to charge the Soundcore speaker and operate the 9v trigger cable from the power bank at the same time, but the speaker has it's own 1200 mAh battery, so it's not an issue... 72 de Russ, va3rr |

I kind of figured someone else had the same though.? Your description of a "paddle emulator" is PERFECT!
?
The "keyer programmer" was the EXACT scenario I was thinking of when I first considered this project.? I also wrote code (serial text input to left/right paddle) for an Arduino and even 'started' to write and article about it as a "keyer memory programmer".? The entire component list consisted of: Arduino Nano, PC827 (dual optoisolator ), stereo headphone jack, 3 conductor cable, and a USB cable.? The article was going to be a way for me to share the code.? After writing the code, I got sidetracked with another project and never tested it.? I am sure I would (will) experience the same speed dependency
?
I will have to pull that back out and test it.
Thanks fro the confirmation!

Just checked both my QMX high band and QMX+ and both show approx 30ma Bias Current and 15-16% Bias Duty Cycle on the Transmit tests. Both are powered from a 12 V source.? Now... Having said that, I'm not knowledgeable enough of the circuitry or components involved in the power tests to figure out why yours shows twice the Bias Current,? Zero Bias Duty Cycle, Zero TX Power Out and yet does show a value for the transmitted SWR.? Have you / can you run the suite of Sweep Tests and the new ADC I/Q test?? Hopefully Ludwig and/or perhaps Jeff Moore can weigh in on what to check next.? Greg KI4NVX?

Re: QMX Time Synchronisation Bug
Mild aside, there are dedicated solutions for accurate GPS disciplined time... I don't think Hans needs to change the hardware just to allow a slightly more accurate use case.

Re: Problem with FT8 on 20M
You first need to confirm it's not RF feedback. Replace the antenna with a proper dummy load and run everything. If the PC now behaves then the problem will be RF feedback/pickup.

Problem with FT8 on 20M
This is a curly one.
My QMX's - Both Hi & Low band, have suddenly decided they do not like 20M.
The antenna is 1.45:1 on the Hi Band QMX SWR sweep. (and 1.40:1 on the Low Band)
I have disabled SWR Protection and both of them transmit on 20M no problem - they are also fine with a Dummy load.
The "S" indication does not appear on the display (If the SWR exceeds the configured threshold then the transmitter is
disabled by an automatically set protection mode in which the letter ‘S’ is shown in the character immediately to the right of the frequency display.) ?
Also - when WSJT-X begins a transmission cycle I get a "pulse" - that is a full bar graph, nothing, then the full bar graph again for the whole transmission cycle.
This happens on all bands, but on 20M I only get the 1st pulse then nothing.
Triggering Tx with the TUNE button on WSJT-X has no "Pulse" . Likewise the Transmit test in Hardware tests on the QMX has no "Pulse".
?
I am not sure if the 2 are linked.
Any help welcome..!!

The Xeigu G90 uses RD16HHF1 (Mitsubishi) and I need to order some (ours failed) but in this context have these devices been considered as PA for any of Han's excellent designs??
?I know it is a very complex study to determine cross compatibility (beyond my pay-grade) but these devices seem to have favorable specifications for our applications here (Q*X-cool awesome rigs). I totally understand and appreciate Hans' prior responses-- makes total sense (I've attempted kitting- PIA) but maybe some of you out there who like to push the boundaries and leather clad your gold upholstered Fords (;-)) might share your thoughts &/or experiences. Re: Lost power
Just out of curiosity, did you press Capital 'P' and/or Capital 'T' in the hardware test Putty screen??
?
You can and should hold down either of those two keys for a few seconds and see what is shown on the PTT signal, RF Output, Power and SWR values on the screen.
?
Be sure to have a good dummy load connected.?

Re: Multi-Banding 50W Amp
Mark,
Some more information in this thread.
?
I liked Ron’s approach, have been building all my 50WPA for 10m and using them on other bands, down to 160m, by adding QRPLabs LPF (components upgraded for 50W) externally. As I cannot use relays due to horrible experience at work, I insert them manually. . .?I needed to make some modifications to 50WPA on 160, (80), 15-10 to obtain good results. ? I just completed my QMX+ and the initial results using it with the 50WPA are 49W on 160, 46W on 80, 50+W on 40-20, 47W on 15, 28W on 10. ? Best wishes with your build. ? 73, Aki, JO4MTH |
