Re: QDX transmit troubleshooting advice¡
John,
Just be aware that in at least one case, I think a QCX, the Si5351 and processor were damaged by 12 volts flowing back through the driver IC from a BS170 with, presumably a drain/gate short.
As

Ted,
You might get pressed into service. Do you also have a scale that measures
in milligrams? I don't know whether it's a true need, but it might be
interesting to know how much material was

Re: Vacuum-tube final for QRP transmitters?
There is at least one example of the 6N7 tube pressed into HF service, it's available in both glass and metal envelops.

Chris,
My 12.0 V PA simulation is producing about 3.7 W into a 50 ohm Rload
at 14 MHz. When Rload drops to 17 ohms (3:1 SWR) the BS170s show as at
their Pd limit, about 800 mW each. They are not yet

To my understanding (and anyone more knowledgeable feel free to correct me), RF lowpass filters don't work by converting energy contained in the harmonics into heat, but rather by presenting a high

Just to confirm that the rig works like a charm. Have had a few QSOs already on 80m-40m-30m. Re-stating the obvious here: it's a fantastic little rig. It gives 4W solid on all bands with 12V (slightly

Re: Vacuum-tube final for QRP transmitters?
I originally got the idea from an SWL (later GM8BAR) with whom I went on DXxpedition as GC3PAI/A and ON5YB in the 1960s. He had built a receiver which could best be described as the transistor

As you have found the QMX is like the QDX, with Windows it does not behave as other USB devices.
It will only enumerate once, then it has to have a power cycle.

The BS170 are producing a signal that approximates to a square wave - the fundamental with a lot of energy in harmonics, 30% or so. These harmonics are all removed in the transformer and the LPF to
