Looks like you nailed it. Pulled L14 and all ok. Pulled the finals and reconnected L14 and all ok. Tested the gate pads and 2 are very nearly 2.475v, but 2 are 2.15 so I take it IC5 may not be good as well. Seems odd that it would be putting out some drive, just not what the other side is getting. I wonder if something else could be going on. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA On Dec 1, 2022, at 19:10, Adam via groups.io <qrp-labs@...> wrote: |

Re: Battery
I am using a battery from Amazon, "12V 6Ah LiFePO4 Battery Pack LF4011, 2000 Cycles Rechargeable 12.8V 76.8Wh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery with 14.6V Charger" It's about $50 and way too big for a QCX and an amp. If I have known more, I would have gotten one half the size. I strongly recommend the LiFePO4 chemistry. It has great properties.

Re: Battery
Agree completely! LiFePO4 4SxP is a sweet spot for a ham battery chemistry..
Good voltage range match to 12V nominal systems, the chemistry is a lot safer than other Lithium chemistries, a little lighter as well for the same rough size/volume... Capable of high peak and continuous current discharge with appropriate parallel packs. The discharge curve is almost flat across about 90% of it's capacity, no charge memory, and high number of charge cycles... All good things! The slight downsides are lower power density compared to LiPo and LiIon ( but still very good ), perhaps still a bit of a price premium (but that's dropping... ), and low temp charging ( <0degC ) will damage the cells... I just replaced my commercial 8Ah LiFePO4 in my POTA pack, which was a great performer ( just too bulky ) with a homebuilt 4Ah 4S1P pack. It's a fun build and good little performer that frees up space in my POTA bag for some antenna options :-) |
Re: Another QDX on the repair bench

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPhil,Thank you for the tips. That sure sounds like a real possibility. ?I'm learning a great deal about this radio by going through this repair. The power socket is not shorted.? I pulled one lead of L14 and now the QDX comes up normally so apparently the regulators are ok and the issue is the finals and maybe IC5. 73,

#u4b FedEx shipped problem
#u4b
Wonder if I could get some help and what I can do.? I ordered 1 U4B and received it by FedEx November 18th. It¡¯s up and flying doing great.? I placed another order for more U4Bs. Shows that it shipped November 30th, but the tracking number is the same as my first U4B order. I also have an account with FedEx and get a text and email to expect a package, which I did receive on my first order But not the November 30th order. I put in a ticket but haven¡¯t heard back. Don¡¯t remember my ticket number and when I ask to have the ticket number emailed to me for an open ticket. I never get a email. And yes I checked my spam folder.? Just want to find out did it ship? I think not because haven¡¯t heard from FedEx. Was there confusion on Qrp-lab side thinking that second order was already shipped, being that they were ordered so close together.? Also, how do I contact them if the ticket system doesn¡¯t seem to work for me? I have had problems with my old AT&T email address before.? How do I contact someone there. Do want my order to be lost. |
Re: QDX firmware 1_06_004 beta
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Hans,I realize it is very strange and I thought so as well. Actually I didn't discover this, but a good friend of mine alerted me to it and asked me to verify it. My test setup was Tx on the QDX to a dummy load and receive on my IC7300. The waterfall on the 7300 display makes it very easy to see the location of a received freq. QDX is a Rev 4 and the freq. was 5357.000 kHz USB. Waterfall offset is 1500 hz. I am using fldigi to test and its Tune function. My friend who alerted me to the issue was using Wsjtx and noted that with the new firmware he was not making any 60M contacts, but reverting to the older firmware he was successful in making contacts. Testing with firmware 1_06_007 on any of the other bands showed the Tx freq exactly centered on the 7300 display, but ?on 60M it was low by 1450 hz which I thought also was strange. I could see 1500, but 1450? I tested multiple times to verify. Reverting to firmware 1_05 corrected the problem with no changes to the test setup. 73,

Re: Battery
Regarding LiFePo4 batteries, typically 4 cells in series is better than 3.? With only 3 cells, it will be just under 11V folly charged and will go down to 9V when mostly dead.
3S is better for LiPo or Li-Ion which are at 12.6v fully charged and drop down to 9V mostly dead.? This is a little low, but 4S Li-Po would be 16.8v fully charged, which is well above published voltage ranges for most rigs. With 4 cells you are at 14.6V fully charged and 12v nearly dead, which is nearly a perfect voltage range for electronics designed around 12v automotive power. |
Re: Untimates3
For just a single band and using WSPR..
Set the frequency up in the first slot, but remember that you do NOT use dial frequencies. For a U3S you specify a direct frequency to use within the WSPR band. For example on 20m the WSPR band is 14,097,100 plus or minus 100Hz. (See U3S docs) Use a FRAME rate of 10 (minutes)

And is it WSJT-X for example by pressing the "Tune" button, or some other way? Then I can try to reproduce it here.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Dec 1, 2022 at 6:36 PM Cliff <ae5zaham@...> wrote:
