Re: QDX manual update
Thanks Paul I agree, and I have amended the manual accordingly.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Oct 28, 2021 at 11:27 AM <paul@...> wrote: On page 17, the text describes the 3:3 option for T1 but the board diagram still references the 3:2 option. Re: QDX TRIFILAR STEP 2.12 Wind and install trifilar toroid T2
Hi George Yes, you?are correct... T2 is a very important component.? I like to wind my toroids as neatly and tightly as possible because it actually does increase the Q and that improves the performance a little sometimes. Every little counts or at least maybe it doesn't really count much, but it does make me feel better which does count hi hi. In the case of transmission line transformers like T2 it's actually not so critical, making tidy uniform twists etc.? But what IS totally critical is to correctly identify the 6 wires and put them into the correct 6 holes on the PCB... so pay very high attention to all the blurb about DMM continuity measurements.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Oct 28, 2021 at 5:04 AM George Korper <georgekorper@...> wrote: Hello, |
Re: QDX
Hello Hew I was a bit mystified by that... so had to look into it... I do not think you received your QDX. I think you received order?50607 which was two QLG2-SE kits.? 50063 does not appear to have been sent which is a glitch in the QRP Labs team Turkey... I have just gently applied my foot and so they should be shipping it today.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Oct 28, 2021 at 4:48 AM Hew Lines <va7hu@...> wrote:

Re: QCX Challenge - October 2021
I tried the 1300 and 1900 slots on 40m with no success. My cq calls did not register on the RBN network. Also my qcx mini rx decoder does not seem to work, I just get random letters even though I can read the signals by ear, are there any special settings needed to make this work?

Re: My new QDX
May I suggest also checking that the CAT polling interval is 10 seconds.? Rapid polling is not necessary on QDX because there is no way for the QDX to change its frequency by itself. Polling is only really needed for example by a logging program, to find out what frequency etc the operator has changed the radio to. QDX only changes its frequency if the host PC tells it to. Therefore there is no downside to a longer polling interval.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Thu, Oct 28, 2021 at 9:18 AM KEN G4APB via <lfoofui.nbz42=[email protected]> wrote: Hi Earl, |
Re: My new QDX
Hi Earl,
I have noticed an issue with wsjt-x that no tx audio tones are produced from the pc to feed the tx on the first transmission or after a band change. Your QDX may not be the problem. I have also seen a similar effect using the wsjt-x TUNE feature. I run win 7 home on an old compaq. 73 Ken g4apb? |
Re: QDX
Love the radio looking forward to the build. My order number is?#50374 so still have a few days to go I imagine and shipping from Turkey to South Africa will also take some time so will be patient. I lived in Istanbul for a few years, am missing Turkey.
Just read Hans' update - hope everyone recovers soon - thanks to the team for all the work on a great value for money product ! 73 Mark (Call sign to be allocated hopefully next week) |
My new QDX
Hello all
Got my new kit up and working yesterday.? Still a whole lot to learn and a whole lot of manual to read. I am using a Raspberry pi 4 as the computer with the "Build a pi" software suite.? Was very pleased at how easy it was to upgrade the firmware -- all ham gear should be this easy! First impression is that the receiver is really hot and that decodes are handled much more quickly than if you have an audio input.? Made some WSPR contacts (photo) and my first FT-8 two way contact.? My QRP wattmeter is 4 W full scale and I pinned that...? I am using 11 volts in (stern warning from Hans about using no more than 12 V) and the 3:2 binocular core winding ratio.?? Now working on sorting out some transmit issue where the ptt activates but no RF power out after a period of operation.? Thermal cutout?? Another mystery was on FT-8 yesterday local hams could copy me and I was receiving all of Europe but I could not receive local stations only a few Km away.? Front end overload??? It's all great fun.?? 73 Earl,? 4Z4TJ |
Re: AA Battery Power for QRP Labs gear
I still keep a good old sealed Lead Acid AGM cell on the bench, both a 5 AH and a 12AH. They are cheap easy to charge and take a bunch of abuse. Not that I abuse them. I can leave them on the float charger and not worry about them also. Outlast my AA's My 12AH is over 6 years old.?
I have lipo's that I use for my RC stuff, but if weight is not a concern then the AGM's work fine. To make things even better there are been a bunch of new 5AH cells being given away at the local hamfests by the local QRP club.? 73 de KB9JJA/Dale |
QDX TRIFILAR STEP 2.12 Wind and install trifilar toroid T2
Hello,
This is a very important step. Hans has advised extreme care. I suggest following Han's method to a "T'. Looking over my workmanship in the 50 watt amp. I see I didn't take this seriously enough, and thought I would mention it before the rush to build the QDX starts. Mea Culpa warning (hi hi). I have no evidence to prove that sloppy procedure in this regard results in trouble but bad "twisted pairs" may come back to haunt you. George K3GK |

Yes they are, and absolutely he will. I might able to help, and will email you privately.

I am still waiting for my order #50000 shipping confirmation.? I have the PayPal email confirming payment at 1:02 CST (1802Z).? It may be that because I ordered more than one for our build club that the quantity is causing the delay.? All good things take time, as long as it is not next year ;-) |

Side note: are replacement processors available? ?Will Hans read this exchange? ?Thanks. ?

Re: No Display....no operability

Ok will do. ?It was fully operational two weeks ago, and was purchased "Built", and not as a kit. ?I just sat down after pulling the cover and checking to see if the long 26-pin chip was seated properly as directed in the builders' manual. ?But, at your suggestion I'll open it ?again and see if there is any chance that the front panel connections appear OK. ?This is a real mystery.....and honestly, quite disappointing as I have a trip planned in a week and really hoped to take this radio along. ?Dang. ?Thanks. ?

Re: No Display....no operability

That single row of rectangles means the display hasn't been initialized, and is consistent with a non-functional processor. I suggest you first check all connections to the front panel, and make sure the processor is fully seated.

Re: display jig quite dim
#40m
Is this a Mini? If so, be VERY careful with wiring and using the extender, because it carries 12V for the display. If you accidentally short the 12v pin against an adjacent pin, it will almost certainly take out the processor and the display.

No Display....no operability
#40m
Well , Crap!!! I have not used my new little QCX+ 40M in two weeks. Just connected it to my regular trusty power supply and a proven antenna....and this is all I get. No display, no menu, no tuning...... Anyone have any ideas what's going on? It's been stored totally disconnected on my desk. I'm stumped.....
Thanks in advance. 73 AG5GW
