Re: Balloon breaking previous records U3B-25
Dave et al :
I have a separate browser window that I keep open with both WSPRNET and APRS.fi tabs so I? can quickly check to see what U3B-25 is up to on a daily basis. As Jack, W8TEE said, it has been a? lot of fun to keep tabs on it.? It was very interesting to track both U3B-25 and the SA6BSS BSS-18 balloons as they were neck and neck? from about Feb 29th until March 14th, when BSS-18 went silent somewhere off the coast of Ireland.? We will be looking at the spots from both Balloons for that period to see how well beaconing on 20m only compared to? Dave's strategy of 30m/20m.? We are trying to come up with a Beaconing strategy for our Aries-1 Balloon and this occurence presents a unique opportunity to pretty much rule out propagation as a variable because the two balloons were geographically so close for?one global circumnavigation.? Congratulations again Dave, your work has been inspirational to all of us.? Cheers Michael VE3WMB? |
I did not think I'd be heard using QRP at 1300-1400, so called CQ QCX several times with 100 watts, got a lot of ?strong RBN spots from west coast USA, and a few non-QCX contacts. Wonder if anyone heard me and tried to reply. I thought i heard one extremely faint call but it could have been ringing. ?JS6TMW?

Wow thanks for all of the help Hans. I'll work on it today.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, Elliot I would make absolutely sure that the 6 ends of the 3 little windings on T1 are all properly soldered. You should read zero ohms between pins 7 and 9 on IC4, the FST3253. In order for there to be a difference in phase between the 2 filter channels there needs to be 2 phases of RF and 2 phases of local oscillator going into the demodulator. 73 Jim W4JED On 3/24/19 10:06 PM,

Re: IQ balance trimmer potentiometer issue

Hi Elliot The 24-turn pot is where you see the symptom. But it is not necessarily the cause. Actually it is not even LIKELY to be the cause, which probably lies elsewhere.? If you get no minimum when you adjust R24 it means either R24 is mis-soldered (or rarely, broken) - but much more likely, is that you have a fault somewhere else entirely: it means that you don't have the proper I and Q signals, therefore there is no cancellation. Anywhere in the receiver signal path up to R24, could be at fault. Possible faults could perhaps include:
This is very important! So I reiterate: Unless you have correctly phase-shifted signals of the correct phase and amplitude at the I & Q which feed the R24 potentiometer, you will NOT get cancellation of the unwanted sideband. Therefore you will see no minimum as you adjust R24.? I recommend looking through the troubleshooting guide:? Even if you do not have an oscilloscope, a DVM can be quite helpful in a large proportion of cases; you should see 2.5V DC bias on pins 1 and 7 of IC5, IC6 and IC7. If not... then you have a problem at that op-amp stage. Visual inspection for soldering faults or incorrect component values goes a long way. Or further DVM continuity checks and checks for shorts.? 73 Hans G0UPL |

Hi?
You could remove the pot again and test it in isolation to make sure it's working (it will probably be ok).? Check very carefully for any solder bridges or cold joints that might be causing a problem on the board.?? Good luck 73 Peter, GM0EUL |
Hi Steve From? Frequencies: nominally around the QRP centres of activity (14.060, 7.030, 3.560 respectively) but please spread out and use spotting aids (see below) to see where people are. QSOs anywhere on the band can be counted. Don¡¯t cluster at the centre of activity! Use the VFO, someone will spot you and call you. If you are searching use the VFO and very slowly tune up and down listening for weak signals. 73 Hans G0UPL? ?
