Re: Fun on 40M (U3S- Si5351a VFO/SigGen-Rreceiver Module-Raspberrypi 3-WSJT-X

Re: Shipping updates?
Hi Jim I got some extra help and a block of 300 are being shipped out in the next few days. Until then, I can't get a proper picture of what has been shipped and what hasn't, in order to know which kit ships next. Shipping out that block of 300 orders significantly cuts down on the backlog. 73 Hans G0UPL? ? Re: Are these good mods?
This is covered hereAnd, if I remember correctly (I do not even have a QCX!) this problem was actually due to "Power Amplifier instability, solution by Daniel Ekman SA2KNG" on that pageIn the 20 and 17m kits C33 ( 1nF) is reduced to 150 pF for a better drive of the PA.” 73 Alan G4ZFQ |

Are these good mods?
Looking at enclosures I noticed that PD7MAA suggests changing c33 to 150pF for 20 meters or 17 and putting in lower dc resistance inductors for display stability:

Re: qcx problem
I have testing with 100?h inductors, the résults is the sameJoel, It seems to me that IC2 is not starting up properly. You have checked all the voltages on the LCD? If that is so then please contact Hans, he does not seem to be reading this topic. 73 Alan G4ZFQ Le 12/12/2017 à 16:04, Joel Fournol a écrit?:hello Alan i have 20mhz good and 27mhz good thanks for your hep today i have receved encodeur sending by Hans but receiver is shudown just bf running ,unfortunately the display is illuminated but the welcome message of the version does not arrive the bf either I turn off, I turn on , still nothing, I act on r27 the contraste works with these white rectangles,

Re: phase noise
ok this measure is very interesting and it is similar to my feeling, but i have no? possibility yet to measure phase noise closed to carrier best 73 ? ? ? ? > Message du 14/12/17 00:32 |
Re: qcx gps interface issue
okay I did a lot of reading of the manual - but this is still not quite intuitive.? must I set the QCX for WSPR operation before plugging in the GPS?? could this alone (along with an open circuit on the antenna port) explain why I nearly had smoke coming from the QCX when I attached the GPS?? not sure I have plans yet to use the QCX on WSPR - but since I installed a connector for the GPS - I am curious enough to get it working before I put the QCX back into its case (it was out to install L5 for the mod).?
just in case I decide to do WSPR - I should look to see if I have a metal slab to install as a heat sink - I remember doing this once on a rig - maybe the Fort Tuthill - where we used a thin layer of epoxy to attach it?? anyone else have a suggestion to improve thermal?? someone seriously needing to use the QCX for WSPR might wish to implement a drive control if it is possible (or reduce the supply voltage).? curious if anyone has done something here.? enjoy your radiations.? Re: Output vs. frequency behavior QCX 30m
开云体育Hi Bill. C30 and L4 ARE important for good operation of a class E amp as
you want losses to be minimum here. Take a look at pages 112 and 113 in the QCX
manual, and the referred articles, which go into detail about the class E
stage.? Pure L-C calculations don’t quite work because the output
capacitance of the FETs is part of the tuned circuit. Hans says on those pages,
“A Class E Power Amplifier contains a
resonant circuit at the frequency of operation, so
it is only suitable for single band use.” From the
little I know but have read about concerning class E amplifiers, most will
operate very efficiently only across a? portion of most bands, 40 and 20
meters included.? The cap value really needs to be optimized around the
frequency of interest for best
efficiency

30m ?
Steve
K1RF, How critical is the resonant circuit C30 and L4 for single band performance?? Are we looking at a broad bell shaped curve response or a sharp peak?? I think I read somewhere Hans picked the values by experiment because of the "floating" capacitance from the FETS etc.? Maybe a mica capacitor would be in order for C30 if the original were heating up. Bill N7EU |
Re: Output vs. frequency behavior QCX 30m
Thanks all for your reactions. I have built my QCX for 30m. The fact that its output power is higher on 40m is unintended and not the result of some sort of deliberate compromise. My new LPF should be OK if you look to the PDF file: -3dB @11.3 MHz, and already virtually flat at 10.170 and lower. So the transmit behavior - gradually increasing output with decreasing frequency - is likely not the result of the LPF. I hope Steve, MW0KST, will conduct his experiment with L4 any time soon. Very curious to see what will happen.

Re: New Year's Eve Operation
Vernon Matheson said: "Al what is your signal look like with the?5 watt PA out of line. Is it possible to disco it and just run your U3S barefoot."
Vernon, here is my U3S barefoot outputting 200mW and received locally on SDRplay RSP1 and piped into Argo. AGC is off in the RSP1. I did reduce the sensitivity of Argo to get a bit cleaner trace. But, it looks about the same as with the amp. :-(? --Al WD4AH |
