Firmware 1.00e cw beacon frequency bug

Fabrizio Menghini

I'm tried to setup the cw beacon.
Write msg on first position, beacon on, frequency 14.100 (for example), frame 01.... the qcx start to trasmit on every minute the message one.
The bug is the shown frequency is 14.100 (write on beacon menu) but the qcx trasmit on vfo a frequency, for example 14.020.

There is a additional feature for continuos cw beacon (not on one minute frame 01)

Thanks and best regards
Fabrizio

Re: QCX 3D print

Hi Mike, you HAVE read the caveat that I haven't printed this version yet - although it looks fine in an assembled model with my board reference model.

For the short case you need:

1 off?qcx_case_bottom_shortDRAFT.stl
1 off?qcx_case_top_back_shortDRAFT.stl
1 off?qcx_case_top_frontV2.stl
2 off?qcx_case_tact.stl
Optional is 1 off?qcx_case_pot_shim.stl? ?This part makes the gain pot more suitable for a grub screw knob.

Don't print?qcx_case_short_draft.stl..? This is the bits assembled as an illustration

Happy the email direct if you have any more questions.

73,
Dave

Re: Boxing the QCX

I used the Hammond box for mine as well - It was a rather tight fit due to the pillars inside for the screws holding the box together. ?I had to trim the corners of the board on one side to get it to fit, and mounted a PCB support through one of the holes for the onboard microswitch (whoch I ommitted).

I also used DuPont connectors to plug in controls and key sockets so I could remove the radio for troubleshooting or repair without having to de- and re-solder everything - That made it a REALLY tight fit, but I managed to get it all in there.

Re: New Year's Eve Operation

David,
Thanks for your tips on setting QRSS up on the U3S! I've got mine going on 30m and over the last couple of days have been trying one FSKCW transmission after a WSPR sequence. I've attached a screen grab from a locally running copy of Argo. As you can see it's looking a little ragged and this is about the way I show up on several grabbers. I've been admiring those ops who are getting nice sharp edges to their transmissions. I'll probably be switching over to DFCW05 for the New Year's Eve event.?

Again thanks for your help and running? your grabber!

Hi Tom,

?

Many thanks for the comments Tom.

?

I draw it out on the graph paper then cut it out and stick it on the final box with Pritt-Stick, it will survive most drilling and cutting then I just put the box in water for a few minutes and the whole paper and glue residue washes away. This works well on plastic boxes too.

?

I do like the Hammond boxes, the paint work is excellent, it didn’t chip at any of the edges even when using a file.

Martin,
I visited your facebook page to have a look...
The use of graph paper patterns for the initial layout and adjustments, and building a full-size wooden mock-up of the case to ensure the fit prior to cutting any metal are excellent techniques!
The "Midnight Blue" anodizing of the case looks especially good with the light leakage via the plexiglass (perspex) acting as an edge-light conductor of the display's blue backlight.
Great work!

Joel,

Starting at Section 6 of the manual:-
How far do you get? I guess 6.3 top row of blocks?
This shows that IC2 is not controlling the LCD.
If all voltages are correct on IC2 then maybe the 20MHz crystal is not oscillating.
Use a RX with a short antenna wire to find a 20MHz signal from the QCX.
Is it there?

[The Si5351 is not involved in these first tests.
]

so I decide to control all the tensions as the manual
everything is ok except clk1 and clk2 0vlts I control c2, d2, regulator e/s ok, I think that si5351 is hs why ????, have you an idea, I am disappointed because I invested a lot of time in the assembly of the box, bought a lipo battery that I wait, in short I have since September and it does not still not working, I ordered the firmware 1000e, waiting too, if I can change the si5351, because I think it is the failure, tell me if I can do this operation, thank you for your response, cordially joel f6cht.

Great job Martin.? Look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

(Like the morse paddle :-)? - for others that may be interested this was printed from?

Martin's clever modification was to use foam rubber instead of the spring for tension)
